Erik Lamela: 'I can make a difference at Tottenham Hotspur'

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela savours his first goal for the club and insists that he feels more confident with every passing game at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela has described scoring his first goal at White Hart Lane on Thursday as a "great experience", while insisting that he has complete confidence in his ability to make an impact in the Premier League.

Lamela bagged his first goal for Spurs in a 2-1 win over Europa League rivals Sheriff Tiraspol, capping a fine display which earned praise from manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The Argentine international remains adamant that the club-record £27.5m transfer fee it took for Spurs to secure his services from Roma adds no extra pressure, declaring it only adds to his belief that he can help Spurs make forward strides this season.

He told The Mirror: "I said that I would be capable of making the difference here because I believe in myself.

"The transfer fee is not a pressure, because when I went to Rome they paid quite a lot to bring me from Argentina. The size of the fee is a good thing for me. It means that they went the extra mile for me, so I want to show what I can do.

"I feel good now. Every time I play I feel better, so it was a great experience on Thursday to play in front of all our fans and we won."

Villas-Boas now faces a decision over whether to hand Lamela his first Premier League start this weekend, with Newcastle United the visitors in North London tomorrow afternoon.
