Manchester City's Rodri and Tottenham Hotspur's James Maddison are among six nominees for the first Premier League Player of the Month award for the 2023-24 season.

The duo have enjoyed stellar starts to the new campaign, with Rodri coming up with two goals and one assist in his side's opening four victories to help City cement their place at the top of the rankings.

After netting and providing an assist for Erling Haaland on the opening day of the season against Burnley, Rodri also came up with a stunning winner against Sheffield United to maintain the champions' perfect start.

With 12 points from a possible 12 so far, it also comes as little surprise to see Citizens head coach Pep Guardiola up for the Manager of the Month award - one of six coaches shortlisted for the August prize.

Meanwhile, Maddison has picked up where he left off in the Premier League since making the move to Tottenham, setting up two goals on the opening weekend of the season in a 2-2 draw with Brentford.

The former Leicester City man opened his Spurs account in a 2-0 win over Manchester United, before scoring in back-to-back games with his strike against Bournemouth earlier this month.

Both Maddison and new head coach Ange Postecoglou have been nominated for their respective prizes, with the latter leading Tottenham to 10 points from his opening four Premier League matches.

Credited with bringing attacking football back to North London, second-placed Tottenham have scored twice in all four Premier League games under Postecoglou so far, and their tally of 11 goals is only beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion's 12.

Spurs are not the only London club with two nominees for the August accolades, as West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen and David Moyes are also on their respective shortlists.

Bowen struck two goals and set up one more in three matches in August, as West Ham took seven points from three games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Brighton.

As the highest scorers in the Premier League after four games, Brighton are represented in the Player of the Month category by Kaoru Mitoma, who scored once and provided two assists in his opening three appearances.

Two other in-form attackers are up for the award, as Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi is recognised for scoring in three successive fixtures against Arsenal, Sheffield United and Manchester United.

Finally, Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo completes the Player of the Month shortlist, having netted three goals in two fixtures against London rivals Tottenham and Fulham.

Joining Guardiola, Moyes and Postecoglou in the Manager's category are two more head coaches to lead their side to a double-figure points total in Arsenal's Mikel Arteta and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp.

Arteta won a league-high four Manager of the Month prizes last season, while Klopp has not taken the accolade since May 2021.
