Gylfi Sigurdsson: 'We need to prove Tim Sherwood wrong'

Gylfi Sigurdsson admits that manager Tim Sherwood was right to question Tottenham Hotspur's character and challenges his teammates to prove that they are not "gutless".

Gylfi Sigurdsson has conceded that Tim Sherwood was right to question Tottenham Hotspur's character and has challenged his teammates to prove that they are not "gutless".

Spurs boss Sherwood slammed his side following the 4-0 thrashing by Chelsea, which was the fourth time this season that they had lost by a four-goal margin or more.

Sigurdsson has admitted that Tottenham's collapses this season have been unacceptable and ahead of the North London derby against Arsenal on Sunday, the Icelandic midfielder has called on his teammates to react to Sherwood's rallying cry by showing that they care about the club as much as their manager.

He told The People: "He was probably right to say what he did because it has happened too many times. It is down to us to give a good reaction and show that we are hungry.

"It hurts but it is down to us to prove that we are not gutless and that we do care about the club. The manager was within his rights to say what he did.

"As long as you have a manager who cares about the team and the players, then you will be fine. We need to show we want to win trophies or Champions League football for the club."

Sigurdsson, 24, has scored four goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this season.
