Kieran Trippier "delighted" with new Tottenham Hotspur deal

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier says that he is determined to push on after improving his all-round game under the watch of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Kieran Trippier has thanked boss Mauricio Pochettino for giving him a chance to shine, vowing to continue improving after signing a new long-term contract.

The England international featured 12 times in the Premier League for Spurs last season, filling in for injured right-back Kyle Walker and impressing as his side finished second.

Trippier has been rewarded for his form at the end of 2016-17 with a five-year deal, two years after joining from Burnley for a sum of £3.5m, but he believes that he still has more to offer the North London outfit in the coming seasons.

"I'm delighted with the new deal, it's a great achievement for myself and I'm just delighted to get it signed now and get stuck in with pre-season," he told the club's official website. "Obviously I was raring to go all last season and the season before, I was just waiting for my opportunities. If I get the opportunity to play even more, I will grab it with both hands and I won't look back.

"It feels like I've progressed a lot since I've been here and I've got to thank my teammates and the manager for that. I've learned a lot - obviously I'm delighted to be with England, it was a great experience, getting the feel of it and how they work, and at the back end of last season I was really enjoying it here at the club. I didn't want it to end, really, because I was getting a lot of game time, so I'm just looking forward now.

"The manager demands a lot in training and obviously on the field when it's a matchday. He's helped me out a lot with my defensive work, my attacking work and as an all-round player so I think I've changed since I first came here. I always believed that I could play at the top level. Even when I've not been playing, I've been keeping my head down in training and games and been working hard for my opportunities.

"Like I said, at the back end of last season I got more opportunities and I tried to do my best but yes, it's been a good two years, I've met a lot of good people, good teammates and I've really enjoyed myself. Obviously we want to progress from last year. We all know our own targets individually and as a group so we'll always do our best throughout. If I get picked by the manager I will always give 100 per cent, my teammates know that, and I'll always do my best for the team and the club."

Trippier, who returned to pre-season action last Friday, has 41 Spurs appearances to his name in all competitions.
