Burnley picked up another point against top-half opposition in their bid for survival as they held Tottenham Hotspur to a goalless draw this afternoon.

Danny Ings squandered the best chance of the game after just five minutes when he fired straight at Michel Vorm in a match that saw clear openings hard to come by.

Here, Sports Mole looks at who stood out during a forgettable encounter at Turf Moor.

BURNLEY

Goal

Tom Heaton: Had very little to do as Spurs rarely got in behind Burnley. Most of his work comprised of stopping long-range efforts, which he did comfortably. (7/10)

Defence

Kieran Trippier: Heavily involved down the right flank, with most of Burnley's joy coming down that side of the field. He was a constant threat with his crosses both from open play and set pieces. (7/10)

Jason Shackell: Led a disciplined defensive effort admirably, ensuring that the Clarets kept their shape and did not give Kane a sniff. (7/10)

Michael Duff: Joined Shackell in snuffing out the threat posed by Tottenham's attackers as Burnley comfortably dealt with whatever came their way. (7/10)

Ben Mee: Less involved than Trippier on the opposite flank. Unable to get forward quite as much, but did keep Eriksen relatively quiet. (6/10)

Midfield

George Boyd: Set the tempo early on with his high-energy pressing and joined Trippier in posing a threat down the right flank. Did not give Rose a moment's rest. (7/10)

David Jones: Never makes any headlines with his performances but does an important job in the middle of the field. Played his part in a good team performance. (6/10)

Scott Arfield: Another to put in plenty of effort towards the team's cause. Could not come up with a moment of quality to change the game, but helped Burnley maintain control of proceedings. (6/10)

Ashley Barnes: Worked his socks off down the left flank and, although most of Burnley's joy came down the opposite wing, he also gave Walker a bit of trouble during the full-back's time on the field. (6/10)

Attack

Danny Ings: Missed the best chance of the match early on and probably should have scored, but was a thorn in Tottenham's side all game. Constantly ran the channels and drew a couple of good saves from Vorm. (7/10)

Sam Vokes: A danger in the air and held the ball up well when needed. Unable to come up with a real moment of quality to make the difference, though. (6/10)

Substitutes

Lukas Jutkiewicz: Replaced Vokes with 15 minutes remaining and had one or two glimpses of goal that were quickly snuffed out. (6/10)

TOTTENHAM

Goal

Michel Vorm: Made a really good stop to deny Ings at the end of the first half having also saved from the striker early in the game. Tottenham's best player on the day, although he is unlikely to keep Hugo Lloris out of the side when the skipper returns. (7/10)

Defence

Kyle Walker: Always eager to get forward, but that often left Spurs a little exposed at the back. Gave the ball away too often as well before limping off at the start of the second half. (5/10)

Eric Dier: Was pulled all over the place by Ings but stood up well to the physical challenge from Vokes. A solid display at the back. (6/10)

Vlad Chiriches: Also put in a strong performance at the heart of the defence before being switched over to the right after Walker's injury. Did not pose an attacking threat down the flank, though, which allowed Burnley to gain control of the game. (6/10)

Danny Rose: Had a busy game as Boyd and Trippier both relentlessly attacked his flank. Was unable to get forward as much as he might have liked as a result. (5/10)

Midfield

Ryan Mason: Almost gifted Burnley a goal inside five minutes with a stray pass to put Ings clean through on goal. Failed to get any sort of momentum going for his side. (5/10)

Nabil Bentaleb: A little fortunate not to go into the book for a few challenges in the first half. Found it difficult to cope with Burnley's incessant work rate. (5/10)

Christian Eriksen: Could not get into the game at all, with Burnley stifling the Dane. Tested Heaton with one long-range effort, but offered little more. (5/10)

Paulinho: Anonymous for the vast majority of the match and must have wished that he had stayed that way when he produced one of the worst shots of the season in the second half that even the Tottenham fans had to laugh at. (4/10)

Nacer Chadli: Did not give Rose enough support defensively and failed to offer much at the other end either. (5/10)

Attack

Harry Kane: Handed the captain's armband for the first time, but that was the most notable thing about his appearance today. Was not given a sniff by the Burnley defence in one of the quietest performances of his breakthrough season. (5/10)

Substitutes

Ben Davies: Brought on for the injured Walker and forced to play out of position at centre-back. Coped with the task well, though, to keep Burnley at bay. (6/10)

Erik Lamela: Introduced as Pochettino looked for some ingenuity and creativity from somewhere but, like the rest of the Tottenham players, Lamela failed to provide it. (6/10)

Andros Townsend: Only given seven minutes at the end of the match and may have felt he deserved more having watched his side lack pace in attack for the preceding 83 minutes. (6/10)
