Tottenham Hotspur climbed into the top half of the Premier League table on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 victory over Southampton at White Hart Lane.

It was a successful afternoon for Mauricio Pochettino, who was treated to a win over his former side after Christian Eriksen scored the vital goal five minutes before the break.

Sports Mole has taken a look at who impressed with their performance in North London.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Goal

Hugo Lloris: Continued his fine form by making a vital contribution to deny Victor Wanyama in the second half, and regularly took the pressure off his defenders with good handling. (7/10)

Defence

Kyle Naughton: Forced off in the 32nd minute following a tough challenge from Ryan Bertrand, but avoided any worrying moments during his short stay on the pitch. (5/10)

Younes Kaboul: The Spurs skipper led by example in the second half with a number of vital interceptions, but a rare mistake offered Wanyama a chance. Luckily for the centre back, his goalkeeper was alert to keep Spurs ahead. (6/10)

Jan Vertonghen: Looked short of his best form at times this season, but returned to form with a faultless display as he kept Graziano Pelle quiet. (7/10)

Danny Rose: Forced to curb his attacking instincts for long periods, despite looking a threat when he was able to get forward. Given very little help on the left, so did well to handle the threat posed by Dusan Tadic. (6/10)

Midfield

Etienne Capoue: The Frenchman is unlikely to ever steal the headlines for Spurs, but once again proved that he can do an important job for Pochettino with a performance filled with tackles and interceptions. (7/10)

Ryan Mason: Showed exactly why he is rated so highly by his manager. Never allowed his work-rate to drop, and pressed the ball superbly well to limit the time on offer to his rivals in the midfield. (7/10)

Christian Eriksen: Always looked one step ahead of others on the pitch. Passed the ball brilliantly, and executed the one moment of real quality with a fine strike for the winning goal. (8/10)

Erik Lamela: The Argentine wasn't at his best, but came into the game when Spurs operated on the counter-attack in the second half. Frustrated the supporters with his poor set pieces. (6/10)

Nacer Chadli: Linked up well with Emmanuel Adebayor to create Eriksen's goal, and troubled the Saints with his direct running. Unlucky not to score in the first half when his effort rebounded off the post. (7/10)

Attack

Emmanuel Adebayor: A periphery figure for long spells, but took the pressure off in the second half by holding the ball up well. Needs a goal to boost his confidence. (6/10)

Substitutes

Eric Dier: The young defender was on early to replace Naughton, and contributed well to a stubborn defensive display. (6/10)

Mousa Dembele: Injected some energy into the midfield in the closing stages. Decent cameo from the Belgian. (6/10)

Harry Kane: Sent on in stoppage time, and had very little chance to impress. (5/10)

SOUTHAMPTON

Goal

Fraser Forster: The England international had no chance of keeping out Eriksen's strike, and made good stops to deny the Dane and Lamela in the first half. (6/10)

Defence

Nathaniel Clyne: Once again stood out with his eagerness to get forward on the right wing, but struggled to produce the end product when he did find space. (6/10)

Jose Fonte: The central defender did very well in his duel with Adebayor as his impressive start to the season continued in the capital. (7/10)

Toby Alderweireld: Starting to look like a good partner for Fonte, and will play worse but finish on the winning side in the future. (6/10)

Ryan Bertrand: There's been plenty to admire about Southampton's full-backs this season, and Bertrand performed well again. The former Chelsea defender got forward well, and his excellent cross for Sadio Mane should have produced the equaliser. (7/10)

Midfield

Steven Davis: Busy in a congested area of the pitch, but didn't have the impact he would have wanted to in the final third of the pitch. (6/10)

Morgan Schneiderlin: Could have started the day as a Spurs player if he had got his wish in the summer, and proved why he was hunted by the club in the transfer window. Stood out for the visitors with his passing as he looked to drive them on after the interval. (7/10)

Victor Wanyama: Lost the physical battle to Capoue, despite being a willing fighter when Spurs were on top in the first half. (6/10)

Attack

Dusan Tadic: Created problems for the hosts with some dangerous crosses throughout the game, but was too often left isolated on the wing. (6/10)

Graziano Pelle: Played a pivotal role in Southampton's impressive start to the season, but was frustratingly quiet this afternoon. Put in a good shift, though, despite being kept on the edges of the match by Vertonghen. (6/10)

Sadio Mane: Despite looking lively when Southampton attacked with his direct running and clever touches, his performance will only be remembered for a terrible miss from close range late on. (6/10)

Substitutes

Shane Long: The Irish forward was the only player asked to make an impact off the bench, and offered a different option with his running into the channels. Unable to find the chance he desperately searched for in the closing stages. (6/10)
