Manchester City have climbed to the top of the Premier League after crushing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at White Hart Lane.
City had the game's first opportunity with just four minutes on the clock. Jesus Navas found Sergio Aguero after some fine work, with the Argentine clipping the outside of the post with his angled drive.
Shortly after, Aguero got the better of Hugo Lloris, dinking the ball over the French stopper after David Silva played in a perfectly weighted ball to give the Citizens the lead.
The hosts nearly doubled their advantage on the 20-minute mark, though Lloris got a big hand to Aguero's header from six yards out following a Gael Clichy cross to save his side falling further behind.
Continuing their pressure, City again came close to adding a second, this time through Martin Demichelis who glanced Silva's cross towards goal, only for Danny Rose to clear away off the line.
Spurs did have the ball in the back of the net before the interval, though it was ruled out after Michael Dawson was adjudged to have been offside.
City began the second half in style, adding two more goals in the opening eight minutes. First, Yaya Toure converted from the spot after Rose brought Dzeko down in the box, with the defender being sent off for the challenge.
Two minutes later, Dzeko got his sixth goal in six games against Spurs, firing home from close range after Silva's effort came back off the post.
Tim Sherwood's men were determined to avoid a repeat of a similar scoreline to the reverse fixture, and they managed to go some way to doing so thanks to Etienne Capoue's goal after 58 minutes following a corner that fell nicely for the midfielder to lash home.
Jovetic restored City's three goal lead with 10 minutes remaining, the Montenegro international being played in by Fernandinho, before firing in a shot which was deflected beyond the reach of Lloris into the corner.
A fifth shortly followed to round off the scoring, Vincent Kompany poking home after Dzeko's strike was deflected into his path to send Manchester City to the top of the table in style.
