Tim Sherwood is expected to make Lyon striker Batefembi Gomis his first Tottenham Hotspur signing in January.
The 44-year-old has been appointed permanent Spurs manager on an 18-month contract, but with the club having spent £110m in the summer, he is unlikely to have full access to their pursestrings in the New Year.
However, a new forward is apparently on his wishlist, with Jermain Defoe rumoured to be heading to MLS outfit Toronto FC and Emmanuel Adebayor's future still uncertain despite his recent recall to the team.
The Metro understands that Gomis, whose has announced his intention to leave Lyon before or when his contract expires in the summer, could provide a cut-price option for Sherwood, who has a preference for playing with two frontmen.
Gomis, 28, has scored 62 goals in 161 appearances over three and a half seasons at Stade de Gerland.
