Villarreal have reportedly moved to sign former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier on a free transfer.
Aurier and Spurs agreed to end his four-year stay in North London by mutual consent over the summer, leaving the 28-year-old in a position where he could have his pick of clubs.
As recently as last week, the Ivory Coast international was linked with Real Madrid, but it appears that the right-sided player will instead represent one of Los Blancos' La Liga rivals.
According to journalist Xavi Sidro, who is associated with Cadena Ser, Villarreal are on the brink of winning the race for his signature.
Aurier is allegedly due in Spain on Monday in order to undergo a medical, with a contract to be formalised in the following hours should that go as planned.
The former Spurs man's last appearance came for his country on September 6 as he played the full 90 minutes of a World Cup qualifier against Cameroon.
