Long-serving Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies plans to see out the final year of his contract in North London, according to a report.

The Wales international has now given a decade of service to the North London giants, whom he joined in a £10.8m deal from Swansea City prior to the 2014-15 campaign.

Davies quickly became a stalwart for Mauricio Pochettino and also played crucial roles for Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, either in a three-man defence or on the left-hand side.

The 31-year-old has now represented Tottenham on 330 occasions, conjuring up nine goals and 23 assists in that time, although he is still waiting to win his first trophy with the Lilywhites.

Davies - who did win the 2012-13 EFL Cup with Swansea City - is now in the last year of his Spurs deal, though, and his game time under Ange Postecoglou is expected to be limited this season.

Davies 'wants to stay' at Tottenham this summer

Spurs could therefore try to recoup a small portion of their £10.8m fee through a sale this summer, but according to Football Insider, Davies wants to stay put and see out the last year of his agreement.

Postecoglou supposedly has no qualms about keeping Davies on the books for 2024-25, as the Australian holds his Welsh colleague in high regard as a "valuable" addition to his team.

As a club, Tottenham are also happy to let Davies see out the last year of his deal before an expected free transfer next year, at which point he should have passed 350 appearances for the club.

The versatile defender played 19 times for Tottenham in all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign, making 12 Premier League starts, although he was hampered by a calf injury towards the end of the season.

Davies stays, but others could depart

While Davies's experience and ability to play both centrally and on the left means that Tottenham are happy to keep him, more book-balancing will be done before the window closes.

After splashing out £30m on Archie Gray and agreeing a £65m package for Dominic Solanke, Spurs announced the shock arrival of Wilson Odobert in a £25m switch from Burnley on Friday.

As well as exceeding £100m in summer signings, Tottenham have cut 12 senior players from their ranks either on loan or permanently, but only three - Troy Parrott, Emerson Royal and Joe Rodon - have left for a fee.

The Lilywhites let Tanguy Ndombele, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga leave on free transfers, while Bryan Gil, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett have all been loaned out.

The likes of Sergio Reguilon, Oliver Skipp, Giovani Lo Celso and Richarlison may also be the subject of bids before the window shuts on August 30, while Ashley Phillips is another candidate for a loan exit.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign away to Leicester City on Monday night, but Yves Bissouma will not be available, having been handed an internal suspension for inhaling laughing gas. body check tags ::
