Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro as a potential January transfer target.

Spurs enjoyed a relatively productive first period of the season, the club currently sitting in fourth position in the Premier League table and having qualified for the Champions League last 16.

However, some supporters will put a different spin on matters, the North Londoners being eight points adrift of rivals and top-flight leaders Arsenal and scraping through to the knockout stages in Europe.

Antonio Conte has previously insisted that the club cannot expect to win silverware on a regular basis unless they are able to make further changes to the squad in January and beyond.

Previous reports have indicated that the Italian would like to secure the services of a new right-sided wing-back and player who can feature in the final third.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adama Traore has been mentioned in the past, the Spaniard able to deputise in each role, but it appears that an alternative has been added to the shortlist.

According to Record, Spurs are one of a number of clubs who hold an interest in acquiring the services of Porro.

The 23-year-old has made a total of 12 starts and three substitute outings in Primeira Liga and the Champions League this campaign, contributing five assists.

Porro is no strangers to squaring off against Spurs, completing the 90 minutes on each occasion earlier this campaign as Sporting collected four points off the English side in European football's premier competition.

The right-sided player still has over two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, ensuring that Sporting do not have to be in any rush to part ways with the former Manchester City man.

Nevertheless, it is suggested that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are also monitoring the situation ahead of trying to negotiate a deal for his services.

Spurs are already well stocked in that area of the pitch with Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence all options for Conte going forward.

However, none of the trio, either in games or in training, have overly convinced, resulting in their Italian boss contemplating alternatives. body check tags ::
