Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened contract discussions with Eric Dier, despite speculation that the England international could be sold during the next transfer window.
Although the England international has made 213 starts for Spurs in all competitions since 2014, he has recently struggled to hold down a regular spot in the team.
With just a year remaining on his contract, the North Londoners are said to be open to cashing in on one of their most longest-serving players.
However, according to Football Insider, club officials are willing to agree fresh terms with the 26-year-old over the coming months.
The report suggests that the development is due to Spurs being unable to afford a like-for-like replacement ahead of the next campaign.
The Premier League outfit are also expected to lose Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer, opening up a gap for Dier to potentially be given more first-team football.
