Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been keeping tabs on Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson ahead of a possible summer transfer.
The Iceland international garnered much attention following a fine hat-trick for his national side against Israel on Thursday.
Gudmundsson equalised for Iceland with an eye-catching free kick, before adding two late goals to help his side to a 4-1 win, progressing them to a Euro 2024 playoff final.
That was the 26-year-old's second international hat-trick in 36 caps, and follows on from some fine league form with Genoa in Serie A.
Transfer expert Jacque Talbot claims that Spurs are monitoring the attacker ahead of a potential summer move to provide competition for Richarlison.
Gudmundsson has been key for Genoa on their return to Serie A, taking much of the limelight away from Mateo Retegui, who is a full Italy international.
The Rossoblu were promoted from Serie B last season, and Gudmundsson played an important role, with 11 goals and five assists.
Now, the forward has adjusted to life in the top flight superbly, and has already hit double figures for league goals as Genoa sit 12th, a long way clear of trouble.
After signing for around £1m in 2022, a huge profit is on the way for Genoa, who are likely to sell the player this summer for a healthy fee.
Having already shopped in Serie A on more than one occasion this season, Ange Postecoglou may utilise that market again to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
Genoa are a club that they have done very recent business with too, after signing Radu Dragusin from the Rossoblu in January.
Spurs also signed Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the summer, and he has been one of the breakout stars of the Premier League season, and is now challenging Gianluigi Donnarumma for the number one spot with the Italy national side.
Dragusin, Vicario and Gudmundsson all share the same agency too, which could improve Spurs' chances of signing the Icelandic attacker this summer.
Gudmundsson will be in action again for Iceland in that playoff final against Ukraine on Tuesday, as another inspired performance could raise interest in him further. body check tags ::
