Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly decided whether to part ways with Sergio Reguilon in the summer.
The left-sided defender has been contracted to the North Londoners since 2020, initially establishing himself as an important player in the first-team squad.
A total of two goals and eight assists have been contributed from 67 appearances in all competitions, but he has not represented Spurs since the conclusion of 2021-22.
Instead, loan spells have been spent at each of Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford, with those three stints producing mixed results.
Between August 2022 and January 2024, Reguilon would make just six starts and 15 substitute outings in league fixtures for Atletico and United.
Improved fortunes at Brentford
However, the Spain international has enjoyed a far more productive time at Brentford, where he has earned regular first-team football for the first time in over 18 months.
Reguilon has made nine starts and two substitute appearances for the Bees in the Premier League, chipping in with three assists either from full-back or wing-back.
Having impressed during his time across the capital, Reguilon may have theoretically played his way back into the plans of Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou.
Instead, according to Football Insider, the North Londoners plan on cashing in on Reguilon during the summer transfer window.
The former Real Madrid man has a contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2025 and there appears no intention to offer a renewal.
Why Spurs are deciding to sell
First and foremost, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not want to lose Reguilon - a big-money arrival - as a free agent in 2025.
Spurs have also moved on from the player, too, with Destiny Udogie, Emerson Royal and Ben Davies all options for Postecoglou in the present squad.
Furthermore, the report points out Spurs are keen to generate funds to add to their transfer budget as they prepare for a return to European football.
Holding a 10-point advantage over sixth position in the Premier League standings, fifth-placed Spurs will either be participating in next season's Champions League or Europa League in 2024-25. body check tags ::
