Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly giving consideration to making an approach for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze.
Despite making a strong start to the new Premier League campaign, Spurs' performance against Fulham in the EFL Cup on Tuesday made it clear that further changes to the squad will be required before Friday's transfer deadline.
The focus is likely to be on outgoings, with a wide array of players not having a future under new head coach Ange Postecoglou and the Greek-Australian wishing to reduce his squad size.
Nevertheless, having recouped in the region of £86m for Harry Kane, Spurs require a replacement in the final third, whether that be a number nine, a versatile attacker or a playmaker.
Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson is allegedly on Spurs' radar, with the Wales international's preference also said to be in favour of a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, Spurs are yet to make any significant progress in negotiations with their Forest counterparts, who do not necessarily have to cash in on arguably their most prized asset.
According to The Independent, Spurs have come nowhere near to meeting Forest's alleged valuation, said to be in excess of £40m.
Unless there is a change of stance from either party, a deal will not progress, and it is suggested by the same outlet that Eze has also been shortlisted by Spurs.
The one-cap England international is generally used in a deeper role than Johnson, yet his growing influence at Palace is not being ignored by the bigger clubs in the Premier League.
Eze contributed 10 goals and four assists in the top flight during 2022-23, and he showcased his ability with a match-changing cameo in the EFL Cup second round against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night as he supplied two assists in a comeback 3-2 victory.
Palace would reportedly like to recoup in excess of £60m if they are to consider the sale of their key player, despite less than two years remaining on his contract.
Like with Johnson, Spurs may be against bidding that high, although their position may change if they are able to get a number of unwanted squad members off the wage bill.
Barcelona winger Ansu Fati had been on their radar before the Spain international accepted a loan switch to Brighton & Hove Albion, a deal which is expected to be finalised in due course. body check tags ::
