Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to pip Newcastle United to the signature of Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos.
The Brazilian has been strongly linked with a switch to St James' Park throughout the January transfer window, but the Magpies have been frustrated in their pursuit of the Sevilla man.
Carlos himself has confirmed his desire to see out the season with Julen Lopetegui's side, who are Real Madrid's closest challengers in the La Liga title race.
However, Football Insider reports that Spurs are now working on a deal for the 28-year-old, which would see out-of-favour midfielder Giovani Lo Celso head in the other direction.
The report adds that Lo Celso would form part of a player-plus-cash deal for the £50m-rated Carlos, with Antonio Conte determined to bring in a new centre-back within the next week.
Carlos has two goals from 30 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla this season and is under contract with Los Palanganas until the summer of 2024. body check tags ::
