Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta BC are reportedly in a 'tense situation', as the two clubs look to negotiate a deal for Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero.
Spurs have seemingly identified the 23-year-old as their first-choice target to replace Toby Alderweireld, who has left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to join Qatar's Al-Duhail.
Atalanta are believed to value the South American in the region of €55m (£47m), which is thought to be above what the Premier League club are prepared to pay in the current market.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Romero is desperate to join Nuno Espirito Santo's side this summer and is 'pushing directly with the club'.
Romano claims that Spurs want Atalanta to accept their last bid, believed to be in excess of €50m (£43m), and the 'tense situation' between the two clubs is due to be resolved 'soon'.
Romero scored three times and registered five assists in 42 appearances at club level last term before representing his country at this summer's Copa America. body check tags ::
