Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil is reportedly expected to return to Spain this summer.
The Spaniard has found playing time hard to come by this season, featuring in just 11 matches across all competitions.
Gil has started only two of his 10 Premier League appearances and has not played since coming on as a substitute in a 2-2 draw against Everton on February 20.
Instead of using Gil, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has preferred to utilise the likes of Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner.
With Gil currently out of favour, Football Insider are reporting that he is likely to return to his homeland in the summer transfer window.
Gil was linked with a move away in the January window, but he reportedly turned down the chance to head out on loan.
However, the 23-year-old is seemingly open to a summer departure, having grown unhappy with his lack of playing time in North London.
Rather than a loan move, Spurs are expected to sanction a permanent departure despite the player having two years left on his contract.
Tottenham will be keen to recoup some, if not all, of the reported £21.6m that they paid to sign Gil from Sevilla in the summer of 2021.
Gil still waiting to fulfill his potential
Spurs decided to move for the versatile attacker after being impressed with his loan spell at Eibar in the 2021-22 season, where he registered four goals and three assists in 28 league games for a struggling side.
Gil has been unable to find his best form since completing the move to Tottenham, having failed to find the net in 42 appearances.
Spurs allowed the winger to head out on loan to Valencia in January 2022 and Sevilla for the second half of last season.
Gil showed glimpses of his quality during his loan spell with Sevilla, scoring two goals and providing two assists in 17 La Liga games.
With Gil set to return to his native Spain in the summer, he will be fully aware that the next few years will be crucial in determining whether he can fulfil the undoubted potential that saw him become the first player born in the 21st century to score in La Liga when he broke into the Sevilla first team in 2019. body check tags ::
