Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring Ivan Toney's current situation at Brentford.

Toney joined Brentford from Peterborough United in 2020, and quickly established himself as a key part of Thomas Frank's side.

In his first season with the club, Toney scored 31 goals in 45 Championship games, and he went on to score twice in Brentford's playoff campaign, which ultimately earned them promotion to the Premier League.

Toney has continued to enjoy success in the top flight, scoring 14 goals in 37 competitive games during the 2021-22 season.

Impressively, he has already equalled that 14-goal tally in 21 appearances this term, and as a result of his fine performances, he has caught the attention of a number of clubs.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are currently keeping close tabs on Toney's situation, as talks over a new Brentford contract take place.

The forward is reportedly earning £30,000 a week with his current deal, which runs until the summer of 2026.

However, Brentford are currently in discussions over a new £50,000-per-week contract, which would make Toney the highest earner at the club.

Although Tottenham strengthened their forward line with the signing of Arnaut Danjuma in January, they are still keen to add to their attacking options.

Richarlison also joined the club last summer, but his first season with Spurs has been disrupted by injury, and he has only managed to score two goals in 19 competitive appearances, scoring both goals in a 2-0 Champions League victory over Marseille in September.

While Spurs are considering a move for Toney, he is also attracting interest from his former club, Newcastle United.

Toney only made four appearances during his time with the Magpies, where he was sent on loan on six occasions, before leaving the club in 2018.

As quoted by the Newcastle Chronicle, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said there is a "chance" Toney could leave this summer.

Romano said: "There will be a chance to leave for Ivan Toney in the summer but only if the right proposal will arrive, Brentford will not sell for a 'normal" price."

Clubs interested in signing Toney may wait to discover the outcome of an ongoing investigation by the Football Association.

Toney has been charged by the FA in December with over 250 alleged breaches of betting rules. body check tags ::
