Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Atalanta BC pair Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini.
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and managing director Fabio Paratici are on the lookout to recruit a new central defender and a goalkeeper this summer, and have turned to Serie A for potential targets.
Romero, 23, left Juventus on loan last season to join Atalanta, who now have the option to activate a £13.8m clause to sign him permanently, which they are expected to exercise.
According to football.london, Paratici will then negotiate with the Italian outfit to sell the defender to Spurs for a significant profit.
Romero was a key figure in the heart of Atalanta's defence last season – winning Serie A Defender of the Year – before helping Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America final two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Gollini has been targeted by Spurs as a long-term successor to club captain Hugo Lloris, who turns 35 in December.
The 26-year-old – formally of Manchester United and Aston Villa – kept 10 Serie A clean sheets for Atalanta last season, the third most in the division. body check tags ::
