Toby Alderweireld's proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly be in jeopardy as Southampton are prepared to take legal action against Atletico Madrid.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at the Saints, winning plaudits for his performances as he helped the club finish seventh in the Premier League.
Tottenham have since expressed an interest in the Belgium international and were said to have agreed an £11m fee to sign him from Atletico.
However, Southampton could now take legal action as they had a clause in Alderweireld's loan deal to sign him for £6.8m, although the Spanish side could opt out of the deal by paying the Saints £1.5m.
The Daily Mail claims that there is a dispute between Ronald Koeman's men and Atletico over whether the La Liga team have paid the cancellation clause, which has held up Alderweireld's move to Tottenham and could now take a further week to resolve.
Alderweireld made 26 appearances for Southampton in the Premier League last season.
