Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid reportedly met on Wednesday to discuss a potential deal for Gareth Bale before the January window closes on Friday night.
The 30-year-old has only made 15 appearances for Zinedine Zidane's side during the 2019-20 campaign, having again struggled with a number of injury problems.
The Wales international still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract at the Bernabeu, however, which is believed to pay the former left-back in excess of £600,000 a week.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Madrid met for talks on Wednesday to discuss Bale, who is wanted by Jose Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The report claims that there are 'many obstacles to overcome', though, with Spurs not prepared to pay a substantial transfer fee, while the Premier League club will also not be able to get anywhere near the attacker's wages in the Spanish capital.
Bale turned out for Tottenham between 2007 and 2013, scoring 55 times in 203 appearances before arriving at the Bernabeu, where he has won four Champions League crowns.
