Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to hold further talks with Sporting Lisbon over the signing of right-back Pedro Porro next week.
The Spaniard has seemingly been identified as one of Antonio Conte's top targets for the winter window amid speculation surrounding the future of Emerson Royal.
Porro, formerly of Manchester City, spent two years on loan with Ruben Amorim's side between 2020 and 2022 before making his move permanent last summer.
The defender's contract still has another two-and-a-half years left to run, and his deal is understood to include a £40m release clause, which Tottenham have been instructed to pay.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Sporting will discuss a move for Porro further next week, but the Portuguese giants are still insisting that his £40m clause is met.
Porro has amassed 11 goals and 19 assists in 94 games from a wing-back role for Sporting, winning the Primeira Liga title in 2020-21 and a pair of Taca da Liga crowns.
The 23-year-old has already faced Tottenham in this season's Champions League, and his total for the 2022-23 campaign stands at an impressive two goals and 10 assists in all tournaments.
Porro, who has earned one cap for Spain, could arrive in North London to compete for starts with Matt Doherty and Djed Spence if the out-of-favour Emerson does depart this month.
The Brazilian has recently lost his place in the team to Doherty, and there have been claims that he could be used as part of a deal to bring Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni to Hotspur Way.
Tottenham boss Conte will be backed in the transfer market this month as Daniel Levy aims to negotiate a new deal with the Italian, whose current terms run out in the summer.
Despite bringing in Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Spence and Clement Lenglet during a busy summer of spending, Tottenham are playing catch-up in the race for Champions League football, sitting fifth in the Premier League standings.
A new centre-back and creative attacker could also arrive this month, but Conte refused to discuss potential incomings when asked in Friday's press conference, saying: "About the transfer market you know me very well that I don't like to speak a lot.
"I think in this moment my focus is totally for the team because we have to face important games against Arsenal, then City, the Fulham game and then again the FA Cup.
"For this moment I am really focused on the pitch then about the transfer market, I am sure the club are trying to monitor the situation."
Tottenham have also been tipped to move for unsettled Brighton & Hove Albion attacker Leandro Trossard, whose relationship with manager Roberto De Zerbi has seemingly deteriorated beyond repair.
Trossard has been left out of Brighton's squad to face Liverpool on Saturday due to perceived attitude concerns, leading the Belgian's agent to publicly demand a transfer elsewhere this month. body check tags ::
