Newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side St Mirren reportedly sound out Paul Lambert to become their new manager.

St Mirren have reportedly contacted former Stoke City boss Paul Lambert regarding their vacant managerial position.

The Saints are on the lookout for a new head coach after losing Jack Ross to Sunderland last week, fresh on the back of guiding the club to the top tier of Scottish football.

According to The Sun, Lambert is a surprise name on the Buddies' list of candidates following 12 years working in English football.

Lambert does have strong ties to the Paisley outfit, though, having skippered the club to the 1987 Scottish Cup during a seven-year spell in their senior ranks.

Chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick is said to have already held informal talks with the 48-year-old, who left Stoke by mutual consent earlier this month following their relegation to the Championship.
