Sunderland are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck as their pursuit of Fabio Borini continues to stall.
The Black Cats agreed a reported £14m fee with Liverpool earlier this summer for the 23-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.
However, a deal has yet to be agreed with the player, despite manager Gus Poyet insisting that Borini wants to join the North-East outfit.
According to The Express, Poyet is now considering a move for Welbeck should his pursuit of Borini fail.
Welbeck was previously linked with Hull City, but manager Steve Bruce recently rejected the rumours.
