Swindon Town won the top-of-the-table clash against Torquay United tonight to move seven points clear in League Two.
Goals in either half from Alan Connell and Oliver Risser earned Paulo Di Canio's side a 2-0 victory over the side that sit directly below them in second place.
Shrewsbury Town moved into the automatic promotion at the expensive of Southend United. Graham Turner's outfit beat Cheltenham Town 2-0 while the Shrimpers fell to a 1-0 defeat against Aldershot Town.
There were also wins for play-off chasers Crewe Alexandra and Crawley Town, who beat Gillingham and Bradford City respectively.
At the other end of the table, Kelvin Langmead's late goal earned Northampton Town a precious win over managerless Burton Albion, while Barnet twice came from behind to earn a draw with Dagenham & Redbridge.
Hereford, meanwhile, remain in the bottom two after Marc Richard's 86th-minute header secured Port Vale a 1-0 win.
