Team GB captain Ryan Giggs has revealed that Dame Kelly Holmes gave the squad some words of encouragement ahead of their Olympics campaign.
It is the first time that Great Britain have entered a football team into the Games in 52 years.
They will kick off against Senegal at Old Trafford later today and Giggs said the squad have embraced the atmosphere within the Olympic Village.
"Kelly Holmes gave us a welcome speech and she gave us a great insight to what the Olympic experience is all about," The Guardian quotes Giggs as saying. "We couldn't have had anyone better speaking to us and the lads realised it's different.
"It's not something which will come around every year and it is one you want to enjoy being part of. All the lads have embraced it."
The Wales star has never qualified for a major tournament with his country.
