Good morning and welcome to Sports Mole's live commentary of the men's quarter-finals at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Team GB's women's outfit were eliminated from the competition by Canada on Friday, but now the focus switches to the men as the tournament reaches its latter stages.
We have four consecutive games to bring you today, with the four victors advancing to the semi-final stage – while the four losers will forfeit the chance to play for a medal.
Team GB will get underway at 7.30pm as they take on South Korea, while favourites for the competition Brazil will begin their quarter-final clash with Honduras at 5pm.
Note that the live action begins at 12pm.
10.23pmThat just about does it for me this evening. Thanks very much for joining Sports Mole for the quarter-final stage of the competition and be sure to join us for the women's semi-finals on Monday. Until then, goodbye! 10.21pmPhew. Incredible. It must be said that the quality of the football today has been wonderful. However, it just was not to be for Stuart Pearce and his side. 10.19pmJapan will face Egypt in the first semi-final on August 7. Meanwhile, the second will be contested by Brazil and South Korea on the same date. 10.17pmWhat a day of quarter-final action. Japan overcame Egypt 3-0 earlier today, while Mexico beat Senegal 4-2 and Brazil saw off nine-man Honduras 3-2. 10.15pmSo there we have it. It just had to come down to penalties once more - and British hearts have been broken. It was Sturridge who missed the decisive penalty, and South Korea will face Brazil in the semi-finals. 10.13pmSOUTH KOREA ADVANCE TO THE SEMI-FINALS. KOREA PEN FIVEKi scores! South Korea advance to the semi-finals with a 5-4 penalty win. 10.06pmOne last huddle and then the penalties will get underway. Team GB to go first. 10.04pmHere we go then. Time to make yourself a hero. 10.02pmWhy does it always have to come to this? We head to penalties! 10pm... however, Sturridge curls it wide and that is just about that for this one. 10pmChance for Team GB in the final moments as Nam fells Ramsey outside the box... 9.58pmNot long left in this one as both players take every opportunity to full to the ground. Neither wants to lose this now. 9.56pmBrilliant defending from Caulker as he denies Baek a clear shooting chance at the final moment, he has been fantastic this evening. 9.54pmHalf-chance for Korea as Park as he strikes from outside the box, but Butland collects possession. Just about seven minutes remaining. 9.52pmPossession football for Team GB at the moment with just about 10 minutes remaining. We haven't really had a clear-cut chance in some time now. 9.50pmAnother Team GB attack just breaks down as Allen passes up possession, before Rose runs it straight out of play. 9.48pmThis is the point where managers surely must be thinking about their penalty takers. It will be interesting to see whether Ramsey is given the chance to take one - should it reach that stage of course. 9.46pmKorea continue to press the ball as the match approaches its conclusion. I just cannot see a goal coming in this one. 9.44pmHere we go then. The second period of extra-time is underway. 15 minutes to find a winner. 9.44pmChange for Team GB at the break as Danny Rose replaces Sinclair. 9.42pmChange for Korea as Ji is replaced by Sung-dong Beak. 9.41pmChance! Free header for Ji inside the Team GB box, but he heads it miles over the bar. What a chance. 9.39pmMake no mistake about it - both teams are pushing for the winner at the moment. However, we remain locked at 1-1 with five minutes of the first period of extra-time remaining. 9.37pmChance! Opportunity for Team GB as Cleverley searches out Sturridge in the box, but Kim just gets there first to clear the danger. 9.35pmReal end-to-end stuff at the moment as both sides push for the lead. Where has all this extra energy come from? 9.33pmGiggs has certainly brought a degree of control to the Team GB midfield since his introduction. He takes a fine penalty as well for future notice. 9.31pmChance! Brilliant double chance for Korea as Koo brings the best out of Butland, before Ji heads over from close range. Korea should be ahead. 9.29pmChance! Brilliant play from Sturridge as he dances into the Korean box, but his cross just would not fall for Ramsey. 9.27pmHere we go then. The extra-time period is underway. It remains to be seen whether either side will push for the winner. 9.25pmYou would have to favour Korea with their superior fitness levels. But at this level, anything can happen. 9.23pmThere we have it. The final whistle blows with the sides level at 1-1. Both goals came in the opening half, while the second period has been a non-event. Who will blink first in this one? FULL-TIMETeam GB 1-1 South Korea (Extra-time to be played) 9.21pmIt appears unlikely with both sides exchanging possession. Normal time is almost over. 9.19pmWe will play an additional four minutes. Is there another goal left in this one? 9.19pmPenalty claim for Korea as Ji is felled in the box, but the referee waves play on. Little over a minute of normal time remaining. 9.18pmHalf-chance for Team GB as Sturridge whips a cross into the box, but it just evades Sinclair. It appears that we are heading for extra-time. 9.16pmBiggest cheer of the night as Giggs is introduced to the play. The place would erupt if he scored the winner. 9.16pmMeanwhile, Caulker glances a header wide for Team GB. Here comes Giggs as he replaces a tired Bellamy. 9.14pmChance! So nearly the winner for Korea as Ji heads back across goal - but it just drifts past the post. 9.12pmA certain Mr. Giggs is warming up on the sidelines. I presume we will be seeing him at some point this evening. Little under 10 minutes remaining in this quarter-final. 9.10pmChance! Suddenly Team GB spring to life as Bertrand searches out Bellamy, but the danger is cleared before Dawson's shot is blocked. 9.08pmKorea have the ball in the back of the net as Ji slots it under Butland, but he is just ruled offside. Meanwhile, Team GB launch an attack of their own. 9.06pmBoth sides are enjoying spells with the ball without ever really threatening to take the lead. Forget attack vs. defence - this is defence vs. defence. 9.04pmI think I may have to result to chanting myself in a minute. There just isn't anything happening on the pitch. 9.02pmNo chants in the crowd as we approach the latter stages - the difficulty being that Team GB do not have any. I think everyone should just scream at the top of their lungs. That could work. 9pmIt's Korea who are making the bigger noise as the last 15 minutes approaches. Meanwhile, Team GB appear content with what they have. 8.58pmKorea force their fifth corner of the match as Caulker clears the danger. However, the cross is over-hit. 8.56pmSo, 25 minutes left. It appears that we are heading for extra-time. Can someone make themselves a hero? 8.54pmSighter for Team GB as Ramsey releases Sturridge in the box, but the Chelsea man is just crowded out at the vital moment. 8.54pmChance! First real chance of the second period for either side as Kim strikes from distance, but it drifted high of the bar. 8.52pmKorea do make the goalkeeping change with Jung replaced by Bum-Young Lee. 8.50pmSighter for Korea as Ki strikes one from outside the box, but it's wide of the target. Meanwhile, Craig Dawson has indeed replaced Richards. 8.48pmNow he is off again, Team GB down to 10 men for the monent. Meanwhile, Korea's goalkeeper Jung does not look comfortable. 8.46pmThe game is up for Richards as he is taken away on the stretcher... or is it? He has stepped back onto the pitch! 8.46pmIt also does not look great for Richards. It must be bad if he is still on the ground. It really was a nasty clash. 8.44pmThe stretcher is on for Jung. Richards is the last man you want jumping into you that is for certain! 8.43pm... Chance! So nearly 2-1 to Team GB as Richards attempts to meet the cross, but Jung just gets their first, and is hurt in the process. 8.43pmChance for Team GB to put a cross into the box as Park fells Ramsey. It appears that Cleverley will take it... 8.41pmFitness will certainly emerge as a factor as the half develops. Team GB have tired in recent matches, while it appears that Korea could run all day. 8.39pmIt's poor from Caulker as he passes it straight out of play. Team GB have not got in the ball in the second half as of yet. Pearce looks concerned on the bench. 8.37pmChance! So nearly 2-1 to Team GB as Bellamy searches out Cleverley in the box, but Jung just gathers. 8.35pmIt's Korea who have gathered early possession of the ball in the second period. However, no real attacking threat from either side thus far. 8.33pmJapan kick us off in the second half. As it stands, early I know, we are heading for extra-time. 8.32pmHere we go then. The players are emerging onto the pitch for the second period. 8.30pmThe crowd are certainly enjoying themselves as the music blares out inside the stadium. They seem to be enjoying it more than the football. 8.28pmThe match is so finely balanced ahead of the second period. And my prediction of 2-1 Team GB still stands. 8.26pmBoth teams have had two shots on target. Although it would be fair to state that Korea have been much the better side, with Team GB's strikes coming from the spot. 8.24pmTeam GB have enjoyed 55% possession, however, they have had five shots to Korea's seven. 8.22pmPhew! What a half! Despite the fact that Team GB have missed a penalty, they are lucky to go in level. Let's take a look at some statistics from the opening half. 8.20pmWhat a half of football. In truth, Korea have dominated proceedings from the word go and took the lead courtesy of a Ji effort after 29 minutes. Team GB were handed a lifeline when Ramsey converted a penalty after 36 minutes, however, he missed the chance to send Team GB ahead when his second spot kick was pushed away by Jung. 8.18pmPossession football for Team GB as the half advances. Pearce will soon have an interesting 15 minutes with his players. 8.16pmWe will play three additional minutes at the end of the half with the two sides level at 1-1. 8.14pmKorea are ending the half the stronger here as we approach additional time. At least we have had a bit of entertainment! 8.12pmIncredible. Jung pushes the ball to safety and we remain level at 1-1 with five minutes of the half remaining. 8.10pmSAVED! Jung pushes Ramsey's penalty to safety! 8.09pmTeam GB are awarded another penalty as Hwang fells Sturridge in the area. Pearce's side have their second spot kick. Ramsey to take. 8.07pmThat's a lifeline for Team GB because they have been second best all match. Can it inspire them to the victory? 8.05pmRamsey just finds the back of the net from the spot. Game on in Cardiff. 8.05pmTeam GB 1-1 South Korea (Ramsey) 8.04pmSouth Korea are not happy with the award as they continue to argue with the referee. 8.04pmTeam GB are awarded a penalty as Oh handballs a Bertrand shot inside the area. It appears that Ramsey will take it. 8.02pmBest move of the match from Team GB as Sinclair and Bellamy combine in the box, but the ball bounces off the Welshman and rolls out. Better from Stuart Pearce's side. 8pmButland must take a slice of blame for that goal. It appeared to go straight through him? But it had been coming. They had started the better. 7.58pmSouth Korea take the lead just before the 30 minute mark and it's Ji who scores with a long-range effort. 7.58pmGOAL! Team GB 0-1 South Korea (Ji) 7.58pmAgain it's bright work from Sung-yueng Ki as he advances into the Team GB box, but Neil Taylor makes an important challenge. 7.56pmAnother half-chance for Korea as Oh whips another cross into the area, but Park is ruled offside. 7.54pmJust as I say that - Ryan Bertrand comes forward from defence, but his effort is way over the target. At least it was an attempt. 7.54pmNo real chances for either side in the opening 24 minutes of football. Not a great spectacle to be honest! 7.52pmIt's almost like watching Barcelona in the way that Korea press the ball in midfield. It's as good a defensive start to a match that I have seen in this tournament. 7.50pmTeam GB just cannot keep possession at the moment as they continue to play straight into the Korea defence. They have not started thus far. 7.48pmChance for Korea to put a cross into the box as Scott Sinclair fells Oh out wide - and Park's header just moves high of the bar. Really good chance for Korea. 7.46pmI think it would be fair to say that Korea have made the better start to this one with 16 minutes on the clock. Another sighter for Jong-woo Park, but he fires over. 7.46pmFirst real strike of the match from Korea as Ji hits one from outside the box, but Jack Butland pushes it round the post. 7.44pmNothing much from Team GB as an attacking threat thus far with Sturridge and Bellamy struggling to get into the game. 7.42pmStill Korea continue to enjoy possession as the minutes begin to pass by. They are really nice and tidy on the ball. 7.40pmReally good pressing from Korea in the early stages of this one. Team GB are not being given a moment to dwell on the ball. 7.38pmThe change is made as Kim is replaced by Jaesuk Oh. His Olympics could be over. 7.38pmRamsey is playing much futher forward - as he did against Uruguay - this evening. The Welshman has looked good in an advanced area. Meanwhile, Chang-soo Kim is in trouble here as he appears to sprain his wrist. 7.36pmHowever, Chu-young Park's effort strikes the wall. Poor from the Arsenal man. Korea are just starting to enjoy a spell with the ball. 7.34pmJoe Allen puts Tom Cleverley in trouble with a poor ball, and the Manchester United man brings Jacheol Koo down outside the box. Free kick Korea. 7.32pmEarly spell of possession for Team GB with Micah Richards and Steven Caulker exchanging passes in defence. Craig Bellamy looks to get in down the right, but the ball drifts out. 7.30pmHere we go then. Wilmar Roldan blows the whistle and we are underway in Cardiff. Team GB in all-blue, Korea in all-white. 7.29pmSouth Korea have conceded just one goal this summer. Meanwhile, Sunderland striker Ji Dong Won comes in for his first start this evening. 7.27pmReally nicely observed and the crowd were also in full voice. Let's get this one underway. 7.27pmNot bad, not bad. Now it's Team GB's turn. Let me hear those voices. 7.25pmNational anthem time. South Korea to go first. It looks extremely intense. 7.23pmHere we go then. Both sets of players are emerging onto the pitch ahead of the national anthems. 7.21pmIt must be said that the atmosphere is building inside the Millennium Stadium. However, the roof is closed following bad weather. 7.19pmTeam GB will certainly look to Bellamy to provide inspiration this evening. The vice-captain has been their stand-out player thus far. 7.17pmLittle under 15 minutes until the start of proceedings at the Millennium Stadium. My prediction? 2-1 to Team GB. 7.15pmThe bronze medal match will take place on August 10 at 7.45pm. Meanwhile, the gold medal match will take place on August 11 at 3pm. 7.13Meanwhile, Brazil will face the winner of tonight's match on the same day at 7.45pm. 7.11pmJust a reminder at how the tournament will develop as it reaches its conclusion. Mexico vs. Japan will clash in the first semi-final on August 7 at 5pm. 7.09pmKorea have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the Olympics three times - the most recent coming in 2004. 7.07pmMeanwhile, Korea also line up as expected with Park leading their attack. They drew 0-0 with Gabon last time out, and will therefore hope to provide a stronger attacking threat this time around. 7.05pmAside from that, Team GB line up pretty much as expected with Craig Bellamy joined by Daniel Sturridge in attack once more. 7.03pmWhat of the decision to leave Giggs on the bench? Sinclair certainly provides pace, but surely Giggs' experience would be priceless this evening? 7.01pmSouth Korea: Jung; Yun, Y Kim, Hwang, C Kim; Ki, Ji, Nam, Koo, J Park; C Park 6.59pmTeam GB: Butland; Taylor, Caulker, Richards, Bertrand; Cleverley, Allen, Ramsey, Sinclair; Sturridge, Bellamy 6.57pmLet's remind ourselves of the teams. No Ryan Giggs for Team GB. Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Chu-young Park starts for South Korea. 6.55pmRight, let's switch our attention to tonight's match between Team GB and South Korea. It's all go! 6.53pmWe now know three of our semi-finalists. Japan, Mexico and Brazil. But who will join them? 6.51pmSo there we have it. Brazil book their spot in the semi-finals following a 3-2 win over nine-man Honduras. Twice Honduras took the lead, but a double from Damiao and a Neymar penalty secured the victory. They will face the winner of tonight's match. 6.49pmPossession football for Brazil as we enter the final moments. They will face the winner of Team GB vs. South Korea. 6.47pmThat's the end of Honduras' challenge for this year as we enter three additional minutes. 6.47pmRED! Honduras are reduced to nine man as Espinoza picks up his second yellow for a challenge on Oscar. 6.45pmMeanwhile, final change for Brazil as Damiao is replaced by Alexandre Pato. 6.45pmThe match has gone for Honduras and I think they know it. Famous last words? Not on this occasion I don't think so. Two minutes of normal time remaining. 6.43pmOne last change for Honduras as Bengtson is replaced by fellow striker Antony Lozano. 6.43pmMeanwhile, full team news for Team GB vs. South Korea can be found here. 6.41pmLittle over six minutes to play in Newcastle as Brazil continue to keep possession. They are doing a job on their opponents in the final stages. 6.39pmNot a great deal happening at the moment truth be told as the minutes drift away. Brazil are just breaking up play with a series of fouls. 6.37pmProfessional foul from Damiao as he brings the galloping Figueroa to the ground. Honduras just cannot advance forward at the moment. Meanwhile, Brazil are also struggling to find their final ball. 6.35pmThe challenges are flying in on Brazil at the moment as Honduras look like losing their heads. They just cannot get the ball at the moment. 6.33pmAgain it's fantastic work from Brazil as Neymar attempts to play in Damiao, but he is just crowded out in the area. Little under 15 minutes remaining at St James' Park. 6.31pmMeanwhile, change for Honduras as Garrido is replaced by Alexander Lopez. 6.31pmPass, pass, pass for Brazil as they continue to probe around the Honduran penalty area. Neymar just looks such a threat every time he has the ball. 6.29pmChance! So nearly 4-2 to Brazil as Lucas strikes from outside the box, but it just moves high of the bar. 6.27pmMeanwhile, Honduras have just started to threaten once more in the second period as Brazil continue to wobble in defence. 6.27pmBREAKING: Ryan Giggs left on bench for Team GB. Meanwhile, Scott Sinclair continues in midfield. Full team news to follow. 6.25pmBrilliant effort from Figueroa as he strikes a free kick from outside the box, but Gabriel gathers the danger. 6.23pmMeanwhile, change for Brazil as Lucas Moura replaces Hulk - who hasn't really got into the match today. 6.23pmReally good hold-up play from Bengtson as he buys a corner kick from Marcelo. It so nearly falls for Espinoza in the box, but it just drifts over for another corner. 6.21pmAll a bit too easy for Brazil at the moment with Honduras unable to keep the ball. Meanwhile, Neymar continues to terrorise their defence. 6.19pmDamiao scores his fourth goal of the tournament to send his side ahead. Surely Honduras cannot respond once more? Or can they? 6.17pmBrazil take the lead for the first time in the match as Damiao turns in the box before finding the corner. 6.17pmGOAL! Brazil 3-2 Honduras (Damiao) 6.15pmMeanwhile, change for Honduras as Orlin Peralta is replaced by Alfredo Mejia. 6.15pmRafael is not happy with Damiao after the striker fails to find him in the box. But it is simply flow after flow of Brazil pressure at the moment. 6.13pmGood goalkeeping from Mendoza as he pushes Neymar's free kick over the bar. However, the whistle had already gone for a foul. 35 minutes remaining at St James' Park. 6.11pmOh my word it is just stunning from Neymar as he dances past Arnold Peralta. What a player this young man is. 6.09pmIncredible start to the second period. But it's Brazil who drive forward looking for their third. This really could be any score. 6.07pmNeymar slots it home, of course he does, to level the match at 2-2. What a game. 6.06pmGOAL! Brazil 2-2 Honduras (Neymar) 6.06pmBrazil are handed a penalty as Damiao is felled in the box by Velasquez. Neymar to take... 6.05pmOh my word! Honduras move 2-1 ahead and it's Espinoza who curls an effort past Gabriel. Incredible. Game on. 6.05pmGOAL! Brazil 1-2 Honduras (Espinoza) 6.03pmBrazil immediately gain possession of the ball in the early stages. It is going to be a long, long 45 minutes for Honduras. 6.02pmHonduras get us underway. Meanwhile, no changes for either side at the break. 6.01pmHere we go then. Both sets of players are emerging onto the pitch for the second period. One of these teams is on their way to the last four of the tournament. 5.59pmWhat of the second period then? It will take a mighty effort from Honduras to secure the victory, but stranger things have happened. 5.57pmMeanwhile, a reminder that Team GB will get their quarter-final clash underway against South Korea at 7.45pm. We will bring you the breaking team news for that in around 30-40 minutes time. 5.55pmLet's take a moment to reflect on what has already happened today. Japan booked their spot in the final four with a 3-0 win over Egypt. Meanwhile, they will meet Mexico in the semi-finals following their 3-2 extra-time win over Senegal. 5.53pmHowever, both sides have registered two shots on target. Three yellow cards for Honduras - plus a red - and just one for Brazil. 5.51pmLet's look at some statistics from the opening half of football. Brazil have enjoyed 55% of possession, while they have had 12 shots to Honduras' four. 5.49pmWow. That's some half of football. It was Honduras who took the lead early on courtesy of Martinez. However, they were reduced to 10 men after 32 minutes when Crisanto was sent from play. Brazil continued to push in the latter stages, and Damiao levelled the score five minutes before the break. 5.47pmWe have almost played the two additional minutes at the end of the half, with Brazil stroking the ball around in midfield. 5.45pmPossession football from Brazil as we approach the latter stages of the opening half. Meanwhile, Mendoza pushes a Rafael cross round the post. 5.44pmHalf-chance for Honduras as Jose Velasquez strikes from outside the box, but it always moving wide of the target. 5.42pmMeanwhile, change for Brazil as Sandro is replaced by Danilo. Something to do with his booking maybe? 5.40pmIt's all Brazil now as Marcelo strikes from outside the box, but Mendoza palms it to safety. Honduras need the break to regroup. It cannot come soon enough. 5.40pmBrazil level the match at 1-1 five minutes before the break. It's a massive ask for Honduras now with 10 men. I think Crisanto may well have ruined their chances. 5.38pmDamiao scores his third goal of the tournament as he turns in a Hulk cross from close range after a mix-up in the Honduran defence. 5.38pmGOAL! Brazil 1-1 Honduras (Damiao) 5.36pmChance! So nearly 1-1 as Damiao rounds the goalkeeper in the box, but his effort is just wide of the post. 5.36pmI'm not sure that Crisanto has a case to argue. They were both really poor challenges, and he gave the referee no choice. Just under an hour left for Honduras to hang on. 5.34pmThe Honduran is dismissed from play after picking up two yellows within 30 seconds. Has he just cost his team a place in the semi-finals? 5.34pmRED! Wilmer Crisanto sent off for Honduras for a challenge on Neymar. 5.32pmStill Brazil just cannot find the final ball as Oscar plays it into Damiao, but his flick is too long for Neymar. However, it's all one-way traffic at the moment. 5.30pmAnother Brazilian attack just breaks down at the final moment as Hulk attempts to play in Neymar. Really good defending from Honduras thus far. Although the pressure is increasing. 5.28pmAnother half-chance comes for Brazil as Damiao strikes from inside the box, but Mendoza gathers possession as the 30 minute mark approaches. 5.26pmJust a sighter for Brazil as Hulk and Neymar combine around the Honduran box, but the former's ball is just too long for the 20-year-old. 5.24pmHonduras have had 53% of the ball inside the opening 24 minutes. Quite incredible. Where has this team come from? They continue to knock it about with Jerry Bengtson always available in attack. 5.22pmReally nice stuff from Honduras with Peralta, Martinez and Espinova all involved with possession of the ball. However, Hulk's effort is just blocked immediately down the other end. 5.20pmHonduras appear to be time wasting already! Only 70 minutes to go lads! However, they do appear to be frustrating Brazil with their possession thus far. 5.18pmMeanwhile, it's optimistic to say the least as Leandro Damiao hits an overhead kick over the bar. 5.16pmNow it's Brazil's chance to strike a free kick from distance, but Hulk's effort smashes into the wall. 5.16pmMaynor Figueroa strikes it from distance, but Gabriel is on hand to collect possession and start another Brazil attack. 5.16pmBrazil have been far from brilliant defensively in the tournament thus far - and Honduras have forced a couple of free kicks outside their box. Surely they cannot add another? 5.14pmOh my word?! Did anyone see that coming? It has been all Brazil in the opening 14 minutes, but it is Honduras who have struck first. Let's see the Brazil response. 5.12pmHonduras take the lead and it's Martinez who clips it home following strong work from Espinoza. Honduras ahead! 5.12pmGOAL! Brazil 0-1 Honduras (Martinez) 5.10pmSighter for Brazil as Oscar releases Neymar on goal, but Jose Mendoza comes to make the challenge. It appears that the goal is coming. 5.10pmBest spell of the match for Honduras as they begin to utilise possession in midfield with Roger Espinoza looking to dictate the play. 5.08pmFirst chance for Honduras to fashion a chance as Sandro fells Mario Martinez, but Thiago Silva gets up highest to clear the danger. Still nothing from Honduras as an attacking threat. 5.06pmIt's been all Brazil thus far in the opening five minutes or so - as expected. Just a reminder that Hulk comes into the side tonight, along with new Chelsea man Oscar. 5.04pmChance! First opportunity of the match falls to Brazil in the shape of Oscar, but Johnny Leveron makes a smart block. 5.02pmThanks Barney! Hello again! What a match between Mexico and Senegal. So we now know two of out semi-finalists - Japan and Mexico. Meanwhile, we join Brazil and Honduras in the third minute. FULL-TIMEMexico 4-2 Senegal: So, a thoroughly entertaining match sees Mexico progress to the Olympic semi-finals to face Japan. I'm going to have to hand you straight to my esteemed colleague Matt Law who will guide you through the Brazil vs Honduras game! 120 minThat's it! Mexico have fought off a strong Senegalese challenge to progress! 117 minAt the other end, Kouyate's long range effort also finds its way into row Z. 117 minThe ball falls to Dos Santos on the edge of the box but his half volley goes well over the bar. 115 minDos Santos tripped by Abdoulaye Ba, who receives a yellow that would rule him out of the semi-final, although that is looking like it won't matter. 113 minSenegal are pouring forward now, and every Mexican clearance is as long as they can manage. It will be some comeback from here, but don't put it past this Senegalese team. They have a free kick in a dangerous position...but for once Souare's cross is poor. 111 minChance! Balde hits a fine half volley for Senegal, who are not giving up, but it is tipped over by Corona, who has had a very good game. 111 minTwo mistakes have cost Senegal in extra time here, but credit must go to the three players who ran the length of the pitch to put pressure on Ba. 109 minGOAL! The free kick goes straight into the wall and a massive clearance is chased by three Mexican players. An underhit backpass then sets Jimenez through, who is denied by a handball by Mane outside his box, but the ball falls to Herrera who taps the ball into the empty net. 108 minSenegal have a free kick in a very dangerous position here. Perhaps a bit central but still a good chance. 106 minNow Mexico make their final sub, ignore what I said earlier. Off comes Peralta who has been a thorn in the side of the Senegal defence today and on comes Raul Jimenez. 106 minThe second half of extra time is underway! 16.45pmHalf time in extra time. The players are meant to swap around straight away but a number of players go to the touchline to get a drink. 105+1 minCorner to Senegal after a long throw in is cleared. Corona spills the ball but a defender is on hand to clear it away and end the half. 105 minSouare is still whipping balls in, this time he finds a teammates head but the resulting header loops harmlessly over the bar. 103 minChance! Unbelieveable save from Corona! Mane strikes a great half volley from inside the area and Corona shows magnificent reflexes to beat the ball away. The resulting corner comes to nothing. 102 minHector Herrera has been heavily involved since coming on as a sub, and he picks up a yellow that will rule him out of the semi-final, should Mexico reach it. 100 minMexico make their final sub as Marco Fabio makes way for Miguel Ponce. 99 minTerrible shame that perhaps the defining moment of this game has come from a mistake, and such a bad one. What can Senegal come up with now? 98 minGOAL! It's been coming in extra time, Mexico lead 3-2! Terrible mistake from Pape Gueye and Dos Santos is quick to pounce to put it past Mane. 94 minDouble chance! Dos Santos is almost in as he tries to take it round Mane, who does very well in his sweeper keepr role. Mexico try and catch Senegal out as Mane returns to his goal, but he manages to produce an excellent save to deny Fabian. 93 minChance! Mexico have made a very strong start here. Peralta lays the ball off to Herrera, whose curling effort goes narrowly wide. 92 minGreat effort from Peralta as he hits a low shot from long range that stings the palms of Mane. Good start for the Mexicans. 91 minMexico kick us off once again. A place in the semi-finals up for grabs. 4.27pmRight, we're about to start the first half of extra time. More excitement please! 4.25pmSenegal's injured player, Kouyate, has come back and it looks like he was taken off with cramp... 4.23pmFantastic game, both halves provided much entertainment. Senegal fought back from 2-0 down and have had the chances to win it. 90+5 minIt goes to extra-time! Senegal down to ten after losing a player to injury in the final minutes. Could have been down to nine after Souare's challenge. 90+3 minChance! Almost a last minute winner for Mexico as Oribe Peralta heads just over the crossbar. Looks like we're heading for extra time! Senegal player is down and on comes a stretcher, but they've already made their three subs. 90 minMohamed Diame makes way, passing the captain's armband to Ba. Diame took a knock a few minutes ago and that could be precautionary. Mbodji comes on. 88 minThe BBC pundits are still going on about the Souare incident, flabbergasted that he wasn't shown a red card. 87 minOne ball over the top beats the entire Senegal defence, and Peralta appears to be in but Mane comes flying out to deny the striker. 86 minYou can sense that both sides are considering going all out for the win here... 84 minThat Souare incident is a tough one to judge. If intentional it is the worst tackle I've ever seen, by some distance. If not, should he still have been sent off? 82 minPape Souare has just been given a yellow card, and the replays show why. In leaping for the ball he kicks Herrera straight in the face. Very nasty looking incident there, hard to tell whether it was intentional though. It does mean that he will miss the semi-final should Senegal progress, however. 81 minMohamed Diame does his best to extend that record, hammering a long range effort high, wide and anything but handsome. 80 minWe haven't had a chance in a couple of minutes, must be some kind of record in this game. 78 minMexico are pushing forward now and Dos Santos has had a couple of sightings of goal without creating a real chance. 77 minI'm struggling to catch my breath here, but you can find the team news for Brazil vs Honduras here. 76 minGOAL! 2-2! Yet another cross into the area from Souare, this time from a corner, finds the head of Balde, who powers a fantastic header over the man on the line! What a match! 75 minMeanwhile, Toure picks up a yellow for Senegal for a robust challenge and Herrera comes on for Mexico in place of goalscorer Aquino. 74 minChance! Oh my goodness, Senegal come close yet again! They are causing havoc with their crosses into the box, and this low one is just missed by the swinging leg of Balde! 73 minIsreal Jimenez gets a yellow for time wasting from a throw in, a bit harsh if you ask me. 72 minChance! Wow, Senegal have another chance! Balde puts the ball into the box with an acrobatic cross and Mane meets it with a diving header that goes just wide. Should have scored. 70 minI feel that it is my duty as an impartial reporter to forbid myself from making any predictions or talking up anyone's chances from hereonin. 68 minGOAL! And there is the curse! Souare whips in a great ball to Konate in the middle, and the tournament's top scorer makes no mistake with his header. 2-1, game on! 67 minChance! That would've been the commentator's curse striking again! A ball into the box is behind Konate, but the striker improvised and hit a volley that had to be saved. 65 minMexico have not dominated this match by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact remains that they are yet to concede in this tournament. Potential dark horses? They're beating Senegal, who drew with GB, and Brazil haven't looked invincible during this tournament. 62 minGOAL! Mexico double their lead through Javier Aquino! Fabian and Dos Santos link up well again inside the Senegal box before the ball falls to Peralta. A scramble ensues and the ball eventually falls to Aquino, who has an easy tap in. 2-0. 61 minFirst change of the match comes on the hour mark as Ibrahima Balde replaces Yero, possibly to save him from a second booking. 60 minMexico come forward, but it is well defended by Senegal. We have a fascinating match unfolding. 58 minThe half may have started slowly but that was an action-packed five minute period. 57 minChance! Another chance! Again it falls for Senegal as Souare's free-kick causes a scramble in the box before Mexico finally get it out for a corner. The resulting corner provides another chance as Mane finds himself in space, but his shot is tame and rolls into the grateful arms of Corona. 55 minSouare didn't do much wrong there. It was a tight angle and he did pretty much all he could, but the keeper was equal to it. Unlucky for Senegal. 54 minChance! Senegal have just topped that chance! A fantastic deep cross finds Souare four yards out at the back post but his header is straight at Corona. This second half looks like going the same way as the first in terms of entertainment! 52 minChance! Best chance of the match so far, including the goal. Dos Santos and Fabian trade passes a number of times, but Mane just cuts out the attempted final ball. Great football but perhaps one pass too many, Dos Santos could have and should have shot. 51 minKouyate comes close with a curling effort that took a deflection off Reyes on the way through, but Clattenburg didn't see it and awards a goal kick. 50 minFirst yellow card of the game goes to Kalidou Yero of Senegal for a late challenge. He, however, was one of the few Senegalese players not to be on a booking before the match. 49 minSlow start to the half this time. Mexico know that priority number one is to not concede. 3.31pmMexico kick us off for the second half. No changes for either side. 3.30pmThe teams emerge for the second half. Jorge Enriquez's goal separates the sides. 3.30pmStill plenty ahead of us today as well, with the rest of this match and the second semi-final still yet to be determined. Brazil and Team GB will both be in action. 3.27pmSo, a reminder that the winner of this match will face Japan in the semi-finals of the Olympics after Japan beat Egypt 3-0 earlier today. 3.22pmElsewhere, Serena Williams has dismantled Maria Sharapova in the women's singles final, winning 6-0 6-1 to become the first player ever to win both a doubles and a singles 'Golden Slam'. Unbelieveable stuff. 3.20pmSenegal lead in almost all of them. More shots (6-5), more on target (3-1) and more corners (5-3). However, Mexico have had slightly more possession, with 51% and, of course, lead in the only stat that really matters - the score. 3.19pmLet's look at some stats from the first 45 shall we? 3.17pmYou can read a report of that first half here. 45+1 minThere's the whistle for half time, and it has been a thoroughly entertaining first 45 minutes. 45 minJust the one added minute, and Senegal have a throw-in that is cleared. 44 minFine tackle from Reyes denies Senegal as they look to respond to Mexico's increased number of chances. 43 minChance! Great chance for Mexico, they should be two up! Fabian lifts an inch-perfect cross to Peralta, who tries to guide it inside the far post, but just puts it the wrong side of the upright. 40 minChance! Lovely, fluid football from Mexico leads to a great chance, but Ba produces a fine block. 39 min...and hits it waaaaay over the bar. Disappointing effort. 39 minAbdoulaye Ba lines it up... 38 minMane is fouled this time, but just outside the box. Free kick in a dangerous position. 37 minThis really is an entertaining match so far. Both sides look like they could produce something special everytime they go forward. 36 minPenalty shout for Konate turned down by a well-placed Clattenburg. Would've been very soft, barely anything in it. 34 minMexico beginning to feel their way back into this match now. 32 minInteresting to see who the rain favours. Ten of the Senegal starting line-up play for clubs in Europe, while ten of Mexico's side play in their home country. 31 minMexico have a couple of their own efforts well blocked as the rain begins to fall. 31 minMexico have a couple of their own efforts well blocked as the rain begins to fall. 30 minChance! Yet another chance for Senegal as Mane finds himself with the ball in the box. He finds enough space to get his shot away but it is well blocked. 27 minMexico have another free kick in an almost identical position to the one they scored from, but this time the delivery is poor and comfortably cleared. 26 minAt the other end, Mexico have a corner of their own, but it is well taken by Mane. 25 minChance! Souare's corner finds the head of Konate but a flying save from Corona once again denies him. 24 minSenegal knock the ball about nicely before making their move and they win another corner... 22 minThe Africans have really upped their game in the last few minutes, and are now in the ascendancy. 20 minChance! Ciss comes storming down the left to put in a dangerous ball. Corona gets a hand to it but it falls straight to Konate. However, the danger man failed to control the ball when he had the goal gaping in front of him. 20 minBetter from Senegal in this last five minutes or so. 18 minEnd to end stuff in the last minute or so. Konate's chance is followed by a half chance for Dos Santos before Konate again caused problems, his low cross well cut out by Corona. 17 minChance! Just as I say that, sloppy play by Mexico gifts the ball to Konate, who turns the defence inside out before drawing a fine save from Jose Corona. 16 minSenegal are struggling to keep the ball here. Every long ball is soon soaked up by the Mexican defence. 14 minSo a good first 15 for Mexico, hitting the crossbar and taking the lead. They are now starting to control possession as well. Worrying signs for Senegal. 12 minHere comes the Mexican wave! Be it in support of the Mexicans or not, it's getting the crowd going! 11 minGreat free kick from Dos Santos and an equally good header by Enriquez. Senegal will be disappointed in the defending but it was a well executed move. 11 minGreat free kick from Dos Santos and an equally good header by Enriquez. Senegal will be disappointed in the defending but it was a well executed move. 10 minGOAL! Dos Santos's free kick finds the head of Jorge Enriquez, who flicks it just inside the far post. 9 minMexico come forward again, hint of a counter attack but Senegal get back quickly, eventually resulting in a free kick to Mexico. Dos Santos to take... 8 minOffside flag up against Peralta when he looked to be in, although replays suggest that the linesman got confused with his strike partner. 7 minPretty even match at the moment. Mexico perhaps looking slightly more assured. 2.35pmMexico win a corner and play it short, but nothing comes of it. 2.34pmTwo defenders left it for the other in their own penalty area there, and Fabian didn't need a second invitation. 2.33pmOFF THE BAR! Terrible mix-up in the Senegal defence and Marco Fabian unleashes a fine curling effort that comes back off the bar. So close! 2.32pmSenegal really pushing on in the early stages here. 2.31pmStrong start from Senegal as Diame advances down the left and wins a corner, which is safely cleared. 2.30pmMark Clattenburg gets us underway! 2.29pmDanger men for both sides: Mexico's Giovani dos Santos and Senegal's Moussa Konate. 2.28pmWembley is looking nice and full today. Probably about 65,000-70,000 spectators. 2.27pmThe Senegal national anthem not sung with quite as much vigour but they still looked fired up. Their first ever Olympics and they could reach the semis here. 2.26pmA win for Mexico will ensure that they at least equal their best ever Olympic finish of fourth. 2.25pmRight, back to the football. A very interesting game ahead of us. The Mexican national anthem is currently being sung passionately by the team. 2.23pmJessica Ennis is also in a commanding position in her heptathlon with just one event remaining. 2.22pm...and you can follow live commentary of that match here. 2.22pmMoving away from football very briefly, the women's singles tennis final is now underway, with both Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova looking to complete a Golden Slam. 2.20pmWhile Senegal opened their campaign with a respectable draw against Britain, followed by a hugely impressive win over Uruguay and then a draw with UAE. 2.19pmMexico's wins came against Switzerland and Gabon, while they drew against Team GB's quarter-final opponents Korea. 2.17pmJust to give you some idea of both sides' form going into this one, Mexico finished top of their group with two wins and a draw, while Senegal finished second with two draws and one win. 2.15pmBrazil and Great Britain are both expected to progress into the semis, but this next match between Mexico and Senegal could go either way. 2.14pmThanks Matt. We have a mouth-watering schedule ahead of us now, as Matt has already touched upon. 2.14pmRight, that's me for the moment. I shall hand you over to Barney Corkhill who will lead you through Mexico and Senegal. Stay with us! 2.12pmJust a reminder what we still have two more matches to come this evening. Brazil take on Honduras, while Team GB face South Korea. By the end of tonight's play, we will know our four semi-finalists. 2.10pmAside from that - with Kalidou Yero coming in for Gueye - Senegal line up with the same side that started their last match. 2.08pmWhat do we make of the team news then? Mexico are pretty much as expected. However, Senegal have left Everton's Magaye Gueye on the bench. 2.06pmAs promised. The full team news for Mexico vs. Senegal can be found here. 2.04pmJust a reminder that the winner of the match will face Japan - who overcame Egypt 3-0 - in the semi-finals. 2.02pmSenegal, meanwhile, have never reached this stage of the tournament before. They do boast, however, the current top goalscorer this summer in Moussa Konate. 2pmThe two sides have met just once in international football, with Mexico coming out on top in a 1-0 win in 2010. 1.58pmMexico are yet to concede a goal in the tournament thus far despite stuttering to the latter stages. Meanwhile, their best placed finish in the Olympics was fourth in 1968. 1.56pmRight, next up we have Mexico vs. Senegal in the second semi-final. It is understood that Giovani dos Santos starts for Mexico. Full team news will follow. 1.54pmMeanwhile, our full report of the match can be found here. 1.52pmSo there we have it. Really impressive from Japan as they book their spot in the semi-finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over Egypt. Nagai opened the scoring after 14 minutes, while Egypt were reduced to ten men when Saad felled Saito just before the break. The pressure from Egypt never really came, and they were reduced to nine men late on when Hegazi limped off. Late goals from Yoshida and Otsu added gloss to the scoreline, and they will meet either Mexico or Senegal in the next round. 1.50pmChance for four as Sakai finds himself unmarked inside the area, but his shot is just wide of the post. 1.49pmNothing left in this for Egypt as Japan continue to keep possession. They are heading for the semi-finals. 1.47pmMeanwhile, we will play an additional three minutes at the end of the match. 1.47pmIt seems that Japan are not done here as they push for the fourth. Meanwhile, 70,000 spectators have turned out today. Fantastic for the Olympics. 1.45pmEgypt could quite easily be down to eight men in the last few moments as they continue to fly into tackles. The game is over for them as Japan keep possession. 1.43pmMeanwhile, they make their third change of the match as Takashi Usami replaces Kiyotake. 1.41pmJapan make it 3-0 as Otsu arrives in the box to head home from close range. Too easy for Japan. 1.41pmGOAL! Japan 3-0 Egypt (Otsu) 1.41pmThat's Hegazi's game over as he hobbles off. Meanwhile, Egypt might have gone down to eight as Eldin clatters into Kiyotake, but the referee allows play to continue. 1.39pmEgypt may have to play the final ten minutes with nine men as Hegazi hobbles around. I think that is his game over. 1.37pmAlmost an immediate response for Egypt as Gaber searches out Mohsen at the far post, but he misses his header. Meanwhile, Saito just fires wide at the other end. 1.35pmJapan surely book their spot in the semi-finals as Yoshida meets a Kiyotake cross with his head. 1.35pmGOAL! Japan 2-0 Egypt (Yoshida) 1.35pmJust a sighter for Egypt as El Neny strikes from outside the box, but Gonda collects the danger. 1.33pmEgypt simply have to take a risk now with 15 minutes remaining. Can they take it into extra time? 1.31pmPenalty shout for Japan as Sakai is felled in the box by Fathi, but the referee points for a corner. Meanwhile, change for Egypt as Meteab is replaced by Marwan Mohsen. 1.29pmMeanwhile, change for Japan as Higashi is replaced by Gotoku Sakai. 1.27pmWonderful defending from Japan as Meteab and El Neny are crowded out in the area. However, the pressure is all one way at the moment. 1.25pmIt's better from Egypt as Meteab and Fathi combine, but Gonda produces a huge punch clear. The African nation seem to have found a second wind here. 1.23pmHow good has the skipper Yoshida been for Japan this summer? He looks a real player. Meanwhile, Egypt continue to just miss the final ball. 1.21pmNot a great deal happening at the moment truth be told. It is exactly as I thought, Japan are just taking the sting out of the match. 1.19pmEgypt continue to lose their discipline as the hour mark approaches. Meanwhile, the chances have just dried up for both sides. 1.17pmJust a sighter for Japan as Yoshida meets a cross in the box, but his header is just over the bar. 1.17pmJust signs of Egyptian players starting to lose their cool as they give away a series of fouls. This is playing into Japan's hands at the moment. 1.15pmChange for Egypt as Salah is replaced by Omar Gaber. Big surprise, but Salah just has not been in the game. 1.13pmAgain it's really tidy football from Japan as Higashi releases Kiyotake, but Fathi makes the challenge. It's pass, pass, pass from Japan at the moment. 1.11pmReal end-to-end stuff at the moment with Japan making the bigger noise. A second goal would surely kill this game off. 1.09pmThe final pass is just too long for Japan at the moment as Otsu attempts to release Saito. However, their defence has not been threatened in the second period thus far. 1.07pmJapan are just starting to spread the play as they look to tire Egypt. It could be a frustrating half for the African outfit. 1.05pmFirst strike of the second period comes to Japan as Yamaguchi hits one from distance, but it just deflects behind for a corner - which is cleared. 1.03pmDecent start from Japan as Otsu advances on goal, but he just strays offside when he perhaps should not have been. 1.01pmJapan get us underway in the second half. I've got a feeling they may try to do a job on Egypt this half. 1.01pmHere we go then. Both sets of players are emerging onto the pitch for the second period. Can Egypt respond? 12.59pmI have got to admit that seeing Old Trafford is getting me excited for the start of the Premier League season. Meanwhile, it is good to see plenty of families in the crowd this afternoon. 12.57pmMeanwhile, our report of the opening half of football can be found here. 12.55pmJapan have notched two shots on goal, while the only statistic that matters sees them lead 1-0 at the interval. Egypt have really struggled to get their best players into the match thus far. 12.53pmRight, let's take a look at some statistics from the opening half of football. Egypt have dominated possession 60%-40%, but they have not registered a shot on goal thus far. 12.51pmWow. That was an eventful half of football. Surely you would have to favour Japan from here, but in football, you just never know. 12.49pmSo there we have it. Japan lead 10-man Egypt 1-0 at the break courtesy of an early strike from Nagai. Egypt improved as the half developed, but they were reduced to 10 men moments before the break when Saad felled Saito just outside the box. The African outfit have it all to do in the second period. 12.47pmJapan have just taken the sting out of the game in the latter stages of the half with a period of possession. 12.45pmMeanwhile, change for Egypt as Mahmoud Alaa Eldin replaces Ahmed. We will play two minutes at the end of the half. 12.44pmChance! It's all happening here as Aboutrika meets the ball before Shuichi Gonda, but he is just crowded out. 12.44pmIt's really lovely feet from Otsu as he dances into the Egyptian half, but his shot is gathered by Elshenawai. 12.42pmHowever, the free kick is poor and smashes straight into the wall. Can 10-man Egypt rescue something before the break? 12.40pmThe free kick is just outside the box, an inch further and it would have been a penalty. What a blow for Egypt. Ohgihara is standing over the ball. 12.40pmRED! Saadeldin Saad is dismissed for Egypt for a last-man challenge on Saito. 12.40pmDare I say that Japan are almost like Spain in the way they play the game? It's all very delicate and well rehearsed. Meanwhile, they are not really playing with a central striker. 12.38pmChance! Clearest opening for Egypt as Fathi finds a low cross into the box, but Hiroki Sakai just manages to slice over his own bar. 12.36pmJapan have faded as an attacking force ever since Nagai was replaced. However, they remain ahead with little over 10 minutes of the half remaining. 12.34pmSalah remains Egypt's biggest threat as he feeds Fathi inside the box, but the danger is cleared for a corner, before Ramadan fires over. 12.32pmJapan clear the danger at the second time of asking, but still Egypt threaten and Meteab just misses the target. Really smart work from the striker. 12.30pmOh no! Here comes the mexican wave! Talk about speaking too soon. It seems to have inspired Egypt into life as they force a corner. 12.28pmHalf-chance for Egypt as Ahmed Fathi finds Aboutrika inside the box, but the veteran just heads over. Much better from the African outfit. 12.26pmNo sign of a mexican wave as of yet, but that is down to the quality of the game. Thank goodness! 12.24pmThe match has just gone ever so sloppy in the past five minutes or so with both sides losing exchanging possession. 12.22pmMy words seem to have inspired Egypt as they enjoy their best spell of possession thus far. It's nice work from Emad Meteab as he finds Aboutrika, but it just breaks down. 12.20pmEgypt just simply cannot keep the ball. But credit must be given to Japan for that, they have been so impressive in the opening 20 minutes. 12.18pmIt does not look good for the goalscorer Nagai following the clash with Elshenawi. And he is indeed replaced by Manabu Saito. 12.16pmWe are back underway, and Elshenawi looks ok to continue. Will the opening goal spark them into life? 12.15pmThe goal has come at a cost, however, with the goalscorer hurt on the ground. Along with Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed Elshenawi. He looks in trouble here. 12.14pmJapan take the lead after 14 minutes as Kiyotake feeds Nagai, and the striker rounds the goalkeeper before slotting home. It has been coming. 12.14pmGOAL! Japan 1-0 Egypt (Nagai) 12.12pmEver so sloppy from Egypt at the moment as they continue to give possession away. That or giving away free kicks. They just have not started thus far. 12.10pmChance! Japan come close once more as Kensuke Nagai meets a cross inside the box, but somehow he heads it wide. What a fantastic chance. 12.08pmReally bright football from Japan with Kiyotake and Otsu both involved, but the final ball is just too long for Kensuke Nagai. 12.06pmChance! Clearest opening of the match for Japan as Keigo Higashi searches out Otsu in the box, but Ahmed Hegazi just makes the clearance. 12.06pmWe haven't seen anything from Mohamed Salah in the early stages, surely he will have a say if Egypt are to progress this afternoon. It's simply been all Japan. 12.04pmStill Japan dominate the possession in the opening five minutes of play. Nervy from Egypt thus far. 12.02pmKiyotake has started the match on fire as he dances into the Egypt box, but he is just crowded out at the vital monent. All Japan in the early stages. 12.01pmBright start from Japan as Yuki Otsu searches out Hiroshi Kiyotake in the box, but his header is just wide of the target. 12pmHere we go then. Egypt get us underway on this mild day in Manchester. 11.58amSix changes for Japan today as they revert back to their favoured XI. Meanwhile, Egypt are unchanged from their win over Belarus. 11.56amExtremely intense from Japan. Meanwhile, Egypt look equally as focused. A lot of serious faces out there that is for certain. 11.56amHere we go then. The players have emerged onto the pitch, and it is national anthem time. 11.56amMeanwhile, Egypt have not qualified for an Olympic Games since 1992 where they were eliminated in the opening round. However, they do have a pedigree at this level - having reached the quarter-finals on four occasions. They have also won the gold medal at the All-Africa Games on two separate occasions in 1987 and 1995. 11.54amJapan's last appearance at an Olympic quarter-final was in Sydney 2000. Meanwhile they last reached the semi-final stage of the competition in 1968 - losing to eventual winners Hungary. 11.52amLooking ahead to our opening match. The team news for Japan vs. Egypt can be found here. 11.50amMeanwhile, they have the world's most expensive defender, Thiago Silva, in tandem with the wily pro Juan and the full-backs of Real Madrid and Manchester United. I think you know you are in trouble when Lucas Moura, a 30m target for Manchester United, cannot even get in the starting side. 11.48amOn the face of it, it isn't really difficult to see why Brazil have been the standout team. Their starting 11 is being groomed for the 2014 World Cup, and bar a couple of additions, it is almost their main international side. A front three of Neymar, Hulk and Alexandre Pato is as good as any side, at any level, in world football. 11.46amLooking ahead to today then. I think it would be fair to state that there has been a lot of solid teams this year, and one outstanding team. No prizes for guessing who I am talking about. 11.44amLooking ahead to the conclusion of the tournament - the bronze medal match will take place on August 10. Meanwhile, the gold medal match will take place on August 11 as the competition draws to a close. 11.42amIn terms of the semi-final stage. The winner of Japan vs. Egypt will face the winner of Mexico vs. Senegal in semi-final one. Meanwhile, the winner of Brazil vs. Honduras will face the winner of Team GB vs. South Korea in semi-final two. The two semis will take place on August 7. 11.40amThe evening's play will be completed when Team GB take on South Korea. Stuart Pearce's side beat Uruguay on matchday three to top Group A. Meanwhile, Korea unspectacularly finished behind Mexico in Group B. 11.38amBrazil take on Honduras at 5pm in what could potentially bring one of the biggest shocks in history. The Brazilians are rightly considered as favourites for the gold medal, but so were Spain, and we all know what Honduras did to them. Lightening doesn't strike in same place twice though right?! 11.36amNext up is Mexico vs. Senegal at 2.30pm. The Mexicans negotiated a potentially tricky Group B to come out on top, while Senegal finished second behind Team GB in Group A. 11.34amAs mentioned, the live action gets underway at 12pm with Japan, who topped Group D, facing Group C runners-up Egypt at Old Trafford. 11.32amSpain were eliminated from the group stages without scoring a single goal, with Japan and Honduras advancing from Group D. Who would have thought it? A team that included Jordi Alba, Juan Mata and Javi Martinez to name but a few. 11.30amHello all! It has been a wonderful tournament thus far, and we have certainly had some big shocks along the way haven't we?!
