Sports Mole dissects Team GB's exit from the Olympics at the hands of Korea.

Team GB have crashed out of the Olympics after losing 5-4 to Korea on penalties this evening.

Normal time ended 1-1 after goals from Ji Dongwon and an Aaron Ramsey penalty, with the Arsenal man missing a second spot kick just minutes after scoring his first.

No-one could hit the winner in extra time and, as is so often the case for British fans, it came down to penalties. Daniel Sturridge missed the crucial spot kick to allow Korea to advance to a semi-final against Brazil.

Here, Sports Mole dissects Britain's exit from the home Games.

Match stats:

Team GB:

Shots: 12
On target: 3
Possession: 58
Corners: 2
Fouls: 12

Korea:

Shots: 16
On target: 4
Possession: 42
Corners: 7
Fouls: 18

Was the result fair?
Yes, on the whole. Korea looked more assured in possession and had the best of the chances throughout the match. In fact, goalscorer Ji missed some great opportunities to prevent the match even getting to penalties.

Team GB's performance
A bit disappointing to be honest. Stuart Pearce would have been expecting to progress but his side just didn't perform to the levels that we know they can. Penalties was once again their downfall.

Korea's performance
Very good. They were underdogs going into the match but deserved to win overall. It would have been very harsh on them to lose on spot kicks.

Man of the Match
Jacheol Koo wins this accolade. The Korea skipper was instrumental in keeping his side disciplined and hard to break down. Team GB's best player was probably Tom Cleverley.

Biggest gaffe
It has to be Ramsey's second penalty. He was lucky to score with his first as it just crept underneath the keeper. He wasn't so fortunate with the second just four minutes later, however, as another poor spot kick was comfortably saved.

Referee's performance
Good overall. Got both of the penalty calls right and let the game flow.

What next?

Team GB

Well, that's the big question. Will we ever see a Team GB side participate in the Olympics again? It's fair to say that it has been a success off the field, if not a roaring one on it, but it would also be fair to assume that the level of support would wane somewhat when they're not playing in Britain.

Korea

A very interesting semi-final against Brazil. On paper, Brazil should cruise it, but they looked far from invincible in their 3-2 victory over nine-man Honduras earlier. Korea will secretly fancy their chances to make the final, and then to win gold.
