Tranmere Rovers have signed defender Tom Hateley on a four-month deal.
The 24-year-old, who can play in central midfield as well as in his natural right-back position, had been a free agent after being released by Motherwell during the summer.
Rovers manager Ronnie Moore told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to be able to add Tom to our squad.
"He's been with us for a couple of days and he's looked sharp and raring to go. He's strong, uses the ball well and his delivery into the box is good.
"He can play right-back or the holding role in midfield so he gives us options in a couple of areas. There were other League One clubs interested in signing him but he chose to sign for Tranmere."
Hateley made 148 SPL appearances during four seasons at Fir Park, scoring nine goals in the process.
