Striker Nicolas Anelka is in talks with Algerian side NA Hussein Dey, according to the club's president Mahfoud Ouled Zmirli.
Anelka has been without a permanent club since leaving West Bromwich Albion in February following a gross misconduct charge, although he has since played in the inaugural Indian Super League for Mumbai City.
When asked about the Frenchman, Zmirli told reporters: "Anelka has played in a number of different continents and told us he would like to play in Africa and in Algeria specifically."
"He didn't talk about money. He only said he would like to play for an Algerian team."
The 35-year-old has played for 11 different clubs including Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea.
