Ajax have turned down an offer from Spanish side Valencia for full-back Gregory van der Wiel, the club's sporting director Danny Blind has confirmed.
The 23-year-old has been the subject of reported interest from a number of European clubs.
However, Valencia are the first to submit an offer, one that Blind has described as 'lacking respect'.
"Valencia's offer was too low and we even think it showed a lack of respect toward Gregory. He has already achieved plenty of things and has a lot of potential. Valencia's bid didn't reflect this," Blind the club's official website.
"We want to keep Gregory at Ajax as long as possible. However, we realise that a player will leave if a club matches our financial demands. It's too early to say whether this will happen with Gregory though."
Van der Wiel made his Ajax debut in 2007.
