Reading manager Brian McDermott is poised to make Valenciennes midfielder Carlos Sanchez his first signing ahead of the Royals' return to the Premier League.

Columbia international midfielder Carlos Sanchez is likely to become the first summer signing for Championship winners Reading.

The 26-year-old, who has been at French side Valenciennes for three years, is out of contract next month and available to leave on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling.

Scouts from Italian duo Udinese and Genoa have also sent scouts to watch the player, but he is expected to sign for the Royals, according to The Mirror.

Sanchez has a reputation as a tough tackler and has received nine bookings this season, including one red card.
