Gareth Bale: 'Cyprus win is down to unity'

Gareth Bale praises the unity within the Wales side after scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory over Cyprus on Thursday evening.

Gareth Bale has said that Wales's 1-0 victory over Cyprus in Euro 2016 qualifying Group B was down to the togetherness within the Welsh squad.

The Real Madrid man headed home eight minutes from time to seal a fifth win from seven games for Chris Coleman's side and put them on the verge of qualification for a first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.

Bale has scored six of Wales's nine goals over the course of the qualifying campaign, but he insists that the unity within the camp is behind the team's success.

"I think the game was a bit more than tough - we expected that from previous experiences over here where we have not done too well," he told Sky Sports News.

"We had a game plan, kept it tight and luckily enough we were able to nick a goal and that has put us in a great position.

"We knew the task coming in and obviously there has been a lot of media surrounding us. We know what we have to do but we are a strong team, we are together and we know what our capabilities are. We are one unit and we know what we need to do now."

The win leaves Wales needing just one more victory from their final three matches to secure progression to Euro 2016, with Israel up next on Sunday in Cardiff.
