Chris Coleman: 'Fatigue took its toll on Wales'

Wales manager Chris Coleman says that fatigue from the game against Cyprus on Thursday played its part as his side failed to secure qualification to Euro 2016.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has admitted that fatigue took its toll on his side as they were unable to confirm qualification for Euro 2016 on Sunday.

The home side were held to a goalless draw by Israel in Cardiff, meaning that they will have to wait until October to attempt to seal progression to a first major tournament since 1958.

Qualification is still in Wales' hands with a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina and a home tie against bottom side Andorra to come next month, and Coleman remains optimistic that his side will finish the job.

"The lads were tired at the end," he told Sky Sports News. "We had a five-hour flight to Cyprus and back and two days later we played Israel. It has taken its toll.

"They got a bit fatigued. Had we not had that game in Cyprus we probably would have won.

"We have two games left. It is in our hands so Israel and Belgium have to do their work to catch us."

The stalemate at Cardiff City Stadium saw Wales keep their fifth consecutive clean sheet in Group B and means that they remain unbeaten in eight qualifiers.
