Ashley Williams: 'Wales must cope with expectations'

Wales captain Ashley Williams says that his team must live up to the expectations of themselves and their supporters ahead of their match with Cyprus.

Wales captain Ashley Williams has said that his side must handle the expectations of the country's fans as they look to take a massive step towards Euro 2016 qualification this evening.

Chris Coleman's side are three points clear of Belgium going into today's clash with Cyprus after beating Marc Wilmots's side 1-0 in June.

Victory in Nicosia would mean that a home win over Israel on Sunday would secure qualification to only the second major tournament in Wales's history, and for the first time since the 1958 World Cup.

Williams is confident that the side can handle the pressure, but admits that victory tonight is a tough ask.

"It will be a difficult game in difficult surroundings, as international games often are away," he told reporters.

"We will have a lot of stuff to deal with, but a lot of us have got a lot of caps now so we have faced these type of challenges before. We know how to deal with it, it is just a case of going out and doing it.

"It is about the pressure that we put on ourselves because of the campaign that we have had so far. We do not want to let ourselves down, or the fans down because there is expectation on us now."
