Walsall vice-captain Paul Downing has revealed that he is eager to sign a new deal with the club.
The 23-year-old's current deal at the Banks's Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season.
Downing has made over 120 appearances for the Saddlers since he was released by West Bromwich Albion in 2012.
"It is not something I deal with, though there have been some preliminary discussions," he told the Wolverhampton Express & Star. "I have always said I'm happy here. I'm from the area and I enjoy coming and playing for Walsall. I'm optimistic and hopefully we can get something sorted in the near future."
Walsall are back in League One action on Saturday when they host MK Dons.
