West Ham United defender James Tomkins has revealed that he hopes to be back in action before the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since the start of March after dislocating his shoulder.

Tomkins will not feature for the Hammers against Everton today, but he is confident that he will be in contention to face Newcastle United on the final day of the campaign.

"I'm out on the pitch now, running and stepping up the training. I like being out there with a ball at my feet, so I've been doing some light training in the run up to the Everton game, and hopefully I'll be in full training ahead of Newcastle," he told the club's official website.

"That's the plan, and I'm staying positive that I can be fit before the end of the season."

Tomkins has scored one goal in 24 appearances for West Ham so far this season.
