Sam Allardyce has been appointed manager of West Ham, it has been revealed.

The 56-year-old, who was dismissed from Blackburn in December, is understood to have accepted a two-year, £3m deal with a £1m bonus on offer should the Hammers return to the Premiership next season.

“It is an honour to be the new manager of West Ham United,” Allardyce said of his appointment. “It is a fantastic club with a great tradition and loyal supporters who deserve to be in the Premier League.

“I can’t wait to begin pre-season training as I am determined to get this club back where it belongs. I wouldn’t have taken this job if I didn’t think we could bounce straight back into the Premier League.”

Former Hammers boss Avram Grant was ousted from Upton Park following the team’s relegation to the Championship last month.
