West Ham United boss David Moyes still aiming for 40 points

West Ham United boss David Moyes says that he will not consider the Hammers safe from relegation until they achieve 40 points in the Premier League table.

West Ham United boss David Moyes has insisted that beating Stoke City on Monday night would not guarantee safety from relegation to the Championship.

With six matches remaining, West Ham currently sit six points above the bottom three, while the Hammers also hold a seven-point advantage over 19th-placed Stoke.

However, Moyes has suggested that his main focus is on trying to achieve the two wins which will take the club to 40 points, a total which he feels should be enough to keep the East London outfit in the top flight.

At a press conference, the 54-year-old told reporters: "I think to get 40 points is the biggest thing and we can't get 40 points at the moment. If we can do, I don't think it guarantees it because there has been years gone by when it hasn't done it but I think in the main, normally it keeps you up.

"I keep my target high, I wanted to win ten games and we have won eight so far in the Premier League since I've been here then I think we'd just about get our points tally up there."

Since Moyes's arrival in November, West Ham have recorded 25 points from 21 matches in the Premier League.
