Mark Noble: 'West Ham United hurt by Tottenham Hotspur defeat'

West Ham United captain Mark Noble admits that he and his teammates were deeply disappointed by their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

West Ham United midfielder Mark Noble has said that he and his teammates were "hurt" by the manner of their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane fired Spurs into the lead in the 23rd minute, but the Hammers came close to levelling the scores when Cheikhou Kouyate saw his volleyed effort clatter off the crossbar.

Toby Alderweireld doubled the home side's advantage before further strikes from Kane and Kyle Walker secured the emphatic win, despite a late consolation goal from Manuel Lanzini.

The West Ham skipper has admitted that he was bitterly disappointed to lose in such a manner, considering the club's good record against Spurs heading into the fixture.

Noble told the club's official website: "This defeat hurts us the most because it is a London derby. We have been on the winning side a lot over the last few years.

"They scored from a set play in the first half and we were not out of the game at that point. We had a couple of chances ourselves and Cheikhou hit the crossbar. If that chance goes in it is a different game. But when you go 2-0 down in a London derby it is tough to come back from.

"But they scored straight after half-time and that made it virtually impossible for us. It was a disappointing day.

West Ham are in sixth place in the Premier League following their defeat to Spurs.
