Kevin Nolan eager to 'repay faith' after discipline problems

Kevin Nolan says that his recent red cards were "out of character" and wants to show that it will not happen again.

Kevin Nolan has admitted that his recent behaviour on the pitch was his own fault, but has said that he hopes to prove that it will not happen again.

The West Ham United midfielder missed seven matches following red cards against Liverpool and Fulham, but returned in the League Cup semi-final second-leg defeat to Manchester City.

After his sending-off at Craven Cottage, Sam Allardyce called him "irresponsible" but Nolan has revealed that he has received support from West Ham's club psychologist Lee Richardson.

"What has happened to me over the last month was very out of character. I've never been through anything like that before – but I have now and I'm hoping to prove, by the end of the season, that I've come through it," Nolan told The Express.

"Things have been made easier by the support I've had from my family, friends and Lee Richardson, the club psychologist. It's at times like this you appreciate who is next to you – who is around you – and my support system is fantastic.

"It was my fault – there was no-one else to blame. I've let people down. I hope I can repay the faith of people."

Nolan has been at Upton Park since 2011.
