West Ham United reportedly need to sell players before they can press forward with their pursuit of Carlos Soler.
The Hammers have made several additions to their squad this summer, recruiting Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Wes Foderingham, Guido Rodriguez, Luis Guilherme, Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug.
They are still looking to add to Julen Lopetegui's options before the transfer deadline, and they would like to bolster their engine room with Soler's signing.
However, according to The Guardian, West Ham's pursuit of the Spaniard could depend on whether they can generate funds through player sales.
West Ham are currently exploring alternative options for Kurt Zouma after his proposed move to UAE side Shabab Al-Ahli fell through.
The Hammers are also willing to entertain offers for Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Danny Ings and Michail Antonio.
However, they are wary that it could be difficult to offload players who are on big salaries and may be content to remain at the London Stadium.
Ajax make Holgate enquiry
Over in the Netherlands, Ajax have reportedly made contact over a potential move for Everton defender Mason Holgate.
The 27-year-old is back at Goodison Park after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United.
Holgate was part of the Everton squad for Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, coming off the bench to feature as a late substitute in the Premier League opener.
Despite being involved at the weekend, Holgate could leave the club before the transfer window shuts on August 30.
According to Football Insider, Dutch giants Ajax have made enquiry about a potential move for the former England Under-21 international.
Ajax are keen to bolster their defensive options and Holgate could be a useful addition due to his ability to play as a right-back as well as a central defender.
The current transfer window represents one final chance for Everton to command a respectable fee, with Holgate's contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Burnley working on Johnston move
In the Championship, recently-relegated Burnley are reportedly working on a deal to sign Celtic attacker Mikey Johnston.
The 25-year-old has returned to Celtic after spending the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, registering seven goals and two assists in 20 competitive appearances.
Despite impressing during his spell with the Baggies, Johnston remains on the fringes of Brendan Rodgers's Celtic squad and is likely to depart in search of regular game time.
According to Football Insider, Burnley are lining up a move for Johnston after identifying the winger as one of their top targets.
The Clarets appear to view the Republic of Ireland international as a replacement for Wilson Odobert, who recently completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
