West Ham United have completed the signing of defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee believed to be £10.1m plus add-ons.

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at the London Stadium and has the option to extend his deal by a further two years.

The Hammers claim that they have "beaten off stiff competition from other leading European clubs" to recruit the 20-cap Germany international.

Kehrer becomes David Moyes's sixth signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet.

Speaking to West Ham's official website on his arrival at the club, Kehrer said: "I'm very excited to sign for West Ham United. This is the best league in the world and I'm excited about coming to play in the Premier League.

"I talked to the manager and he told me about how he sees me fitting in at the club. My biggest goal now is to get into the team, integrate myself within the group and enjoy playing for West Ham."

Moyes added: "I am really pleased to welcome Thilo to West Ham United. He's a talented player, who can play in a number of defensive positions, adding strength and depth to our current options."

Kehrer began his professional career with Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 and spent two years in the senior side, developing into one of the club's brightest prospects.

The versatile defender, who can operate at either centre-back or right-back, caught the eye of a number of top European clubs including PSG, who signed the German for around £31m in the summer of 2018.

Kehrer made a total of 128 appearances for the French giants across all competitions and won a total of six major trophies including three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups.

The Tubingen-born defender fell down the pecking order towards the backend of his spell at PSG, but will now be hoping to establish himself as a key player at West Ham in a bid to represent the German national team at the World Cup later this year.

The Hammers have moved for Kehrer as fellow new recruit Aguerd tore ankle ligaments in pre-season and faces up to three months on the sidelines.

Kehrer, who will wear the No.24 shirt at the London Stadium, could make his debut for Moyes's side when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the capital for their Premier League clash on Sunday.
