Uwe Rosler: 'We didn't take first-half opportunities'

Uwe Rosler puts Wigan Athletic's 4-3 defeat against Blackburn Rovers down to 'missed opportunities' in the first half.

Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler has put his side's narrow defeat against Blackburn Rovers down to missed opportunities in the first half.

The Latics, who had already ensured their spot in the end of season playoffs, fell to a 4-3 defeat at Ewood Park.

Following a tight opening 45 minutes, Wigan found the net twice following the interval, yet it still was not enough to defeat Rovers.

"It was a very open game," Rosler is quoted as saying by the club's official website. "We knew that they would be attack minded and, with the team we put out, we knew there would be a lot of space to attack but also that we may be a bit open.

"The difference in the first-half was that we didn't use our opportunities and they got scrappy goals from mistakes from us. Second-half they went up but we finished the game stronger and we had the chances for an equaliser.

"Overall I think it's very important we go out of that game with some momentum. We had an opportunity to give some players 90 minutes who needed it and also some players a rest who also needed it."

Wigan will face Queens Park Rangers in the playoffs later this month.
