Wigan Athletic have announced that they have secured the capture of Cardiff City striker Nicky Maynard on loan until the end of the season.

Manager Uwe Rosler told the club's official website: "Nicky is at the stage of his career where he wants to play regular football again after his injury last season. He wants to prove a point to himself and also to the people.

"That's a perfect scenario for us; it matches our ambitions. We want to prove a point, we want to go up, we want to into the play offs and I think we can give him the platform to perform again."

Rosler also insisted that he will be "patient" with Maynard due to his absence from first-team football.
