Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Michael Jacobs insists that his side can challenge for promotion in their first season back in the Championship.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Michael Jacobs has insisted that his side will be aiming for more than consolidation during their first campaign back in the Championship.

Jacobs helped Wolves win the League One title last season by nine points, and despite being part of a relatively inexperienced squad at Molineux, the former Derby County player believes that Kenny Jackett's team can make an impact at the top of the table.

The 22-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "It's going to be tougher, the games come thick and fast and you play against a lot of strong teams, but we've got enough to put a challenge up.

"I think that we can really kick on. There are a lot of strong teams in the Championship – there won't be a week where you can think you're going to get an easy three points.

"It's one of the most competitive leagues around and it will be a tough season but I think that we have enough to put a good challenge in."

Jacobs netted eight goals in 30 appearances for Wolves last season.
