Simon Jordan: 'Wolverhampton Wanderers criticism is sour grapes'

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan hits out at clubs criticising the relationship between Wolverhampton Wanderers and super agent Jorge Mendes.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has slammed other clubs for conspiring about Wolverhampton Wanderers' relationship with agent Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese's links with the club, whose impending promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday, have been brought up by Championship teams such as Leeds United and Aston Villa.

Sky Sports News reported that Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani wrote to the EFL and Football Association about his concerns, but Jordan believes that Wolves and Mendes are innocent.

"Wolves have done nothing wrong, clearly there is an association with Jorge Mendes and the owners and there is a benefit in kind opportunity," Jordan told talkSPORT.

"They are going to lose £25m this year which means if they didn't get promoted and lost £20m again next year that they would potentially be in trouble with the Financial Fair Play. But right now they are doing nothing wrong.

"There is no morale issue. There is no logistical issue. There is no legal issue. There are sour grapes from clubs in the Championship because Wolves have a relationship with a super-agent. If other clubs want a super agent - get one!"

Mendes represents Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo and was also involved in the transfers of Portuguese trio Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Helder Costa to the West Midlands side.
