Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford consolidate their automatic promotion places after Leyton Orient slip up and drop points.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford both consolidated their automatic promotion places in League One after Leyton Orient dropped points away to Walsall this afternoon.

Wolves remain top of the standings after securing a 2-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Goals in either half from James Henry and David Edwards helped Kenny Jackett's men preserve top spot and reach the 80-point mark in England's third tier.

Meanwhile, the Bees came from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at Griffin Park to keep the pressure on the West Midlands outfit.

Callum Wilson opened the scoring after just five minutes for the Sky Blues before Alan Judge wasted the opportunity to provide a swift riposte by missing a penalty.

However, the motivation of Mark Warburton's men never faltered and quickfire strikes from Clayton Donaldson and Marcello Trotta helped turn the game on its head by 20 minutes.

Alan McCormack sealed the points for the Londoners early in the second half as Warburton's side remain one point adrift of Wanderers with a game in hand.

In contrast, Orient lost ground in the race for automatic promotion as Russell Slade's men slipped four points behind Brentford - who have played two fewer games - after being held to a 1-1 draw with the Saddlers.

Nathan Clarke cancelled out Paul Downing's first-half strike in the 79th minute courtesy of a big deflection.

Elsewhere, MK Dons scored three times in the final 10 minutes to secure a 3-2 win away to Stevenage in the afternoon's most dramatic clash.

Karl Robinson's team were trailing by a two-goal margin courtesy of first-half strikes from Dean Parrett and Lucas Akins respectively.

Jordan Spence reduced the arrears on 81 minutes before Ben Reeves equalised shortly after. There was yet more drama, though, as Dean Lewington pounced in the closing stages to snatch all three points.

Consequently, the Dons close move three points adrift of Peterborough United, who occupy the final playoff place.

At the other end of the table, Notts County ended their six-game winless streak to breathe fresh life into their survival bid with a 4-1 victory over Carlisle United at Meadow Lane.

Haydn Hollis and Ronan Murray fired the Magpies into a 2-0 half-time lead, before the former trebled his team's advantage shortly after the break.

James Berrett reduced the arrears on 57 minutes, but it proved a mere consolation as Gary Liddle re-established the three-goal lead once again.

Shaun Derry's men remain bottom of the standings, but sit just three points adrift of safety.
