Wolverhampton Wanderers move four points clear of Brentford at the top of League One after beating Colchester 4-2 at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers moved four points clear at the summit of League One after surviving a spirited comeback by Colchester United to edge the contest 4-2.

A first-half blitz saw Wolves secure a 3-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Michael Jacobs, David Edwards and James Henry.

However, a second-half double from Alex Gilbey and David Wright was enough to set up a nervy finale to the contest.

Gilbey then came within inches of finding a dramatic equaliser only to strike the post in the closing stages, before Nouha Dicko made sure of the points in the dying moments.

As a result, Kenny Jackett's troops move four clear of Brentford, who slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.

Kieran Agard's first-half brace looked enough for the Millers to down the promotion-chasing Bees, before Haris Vuckic pounced in the final moments to cap an impressive win as Steve Evans's men remain comfortably in the playoff spots.

Preston North End also consolidated their playoff position by coming from behind to beat Peterborough United 3-1 at Deepdale.

Neil Kilkenny cancelled out Danny Swanson's opener to earn a 1-1 half-time draw for the Lilywhites, before two Joe Garner strikes in the final 10 minutes were enough to see off Posh, who now sit 14 points adrift of fifth-placed Preston.

Elsewhere, Notts County boosted their survival prospects by following up their 4-1 win over Carlisle United on Saturday by beating Crewe Alexandra 3-1 tonight.

Gary Liddle's 10th-minute strike proved the difference between the sides for most of the contest, before Ronan Murray doubled the advantage in the final quarter of the clash.

Murray struck once more in the final few minutes of normal time before Mark Ellis bagged a consolation for the Railwaymen late on.

Consequently, Shaun Derry's men move off the bottom of the standings up to 23rd, one point off safety.
